Three things Star Navigator passengers should know

Your first Okinawa port is immigration day

Cruises begin in Taiwan, so the first Japanese call of each one is a face-to-face passport check for everyone aboard. Budget the first hour for it; the ship × port pages mark which calls are entry calls.

A Chinese-language ship

Service, menus and announcements are in Chinese and the Taiwan operation bills in New Taiwan dollars. Sales are through StarDream Cruises and its travel partners in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Photo note

Our photograph shows the ship as SuperStar Virgo at Hong Kong’s Ocean Terminal, the name she carried from 1999 to 2019 — same hull, two names later.

Quick answers

Questions Star Navigator passengers ask

Where does Star Navigator dock in Naha?

At Tomari Wharf No.8 (Naha Cruise Terminal) on 85 of her 101 listed calls, a short walk or taxi from Kokusai-dori; the other 16 use the 2nd Cruise Berth on Shinko Wharf No.12, which needs the shuttle or a taxi into town. Our Naha page gives the walk and taxi times from each.

How long does Star Navigator stay in port?

Nine hours on most calls, in four patterns: 12:00–21:00, 10:00–19:00, 09:00–18:00 and 07:00–16:00. Allowing half an hour to get ashore and an hour’s margin before all-aboard, that is about seven usable hours — enough for every half-day plan on our Okinawa pages and most full-day tours.

Does Star Navigator go anywhere in Japan besides Okinawa?

A little: on the port lists through December 2027 she has two calls each at Kochi, Sasebo and Nagasaki, one each at Osaka, Kobe and Kagoshima, and one at Busan in Korea, on the five- and seven-night cruises. The other 184 calls are Naha, Ishigaki and Miyakojima.

Planning the whole voyage? Read the four Japan cruise loops, explained — and whatever the port, be back aboard 60 minutes early.
