The proof still stands: the 1893 Sankyo rice warehouses under 35 zelkova trees, the Homma family's 1768 house, and a geisha house with dancing maiko. Everything sits within about 1.5 km, and your ship docks at Kominato Wharf, 15 minutes by car from the old town.

Realistically no — Kominato Wharf is about 6 km (15 min by car) from the old town through the cargo port, and there is no terminal building. Take your line’s shuttle (check the daily program) or a taxi. In town, the warehouses, the Homma residence, Somaro, the seafood market and Hiyoriyama lie within about 1.5 km — 5 to 15 minutes apart on foot; the Homma Museum is 20 minutes from Somaro.
They were Japan’s richest merchant house — Edo-era farmers sang that “one can never match the Hommas, but one might at least become a lord.” Their 1768 residence (¥1,100; ¥2,000 with the museum), their art collection at the Homma Museum (¥1,300; open daily March–November, closed Tue–Wed in winter) and the rice-warehouse economy they anchored are the spine of a Sakata port day.
