Early August (traditionally the 3rd–6th). Some 2026 sailings — notably Princess’s festival loops — time calls to festival season; otherwise the Kanto Festival Center downtown lets you watch and even try pole-balancing year-round.
Only with wheels and discipline — it sits a proper drive inland, which is why it is the one Akita excursion genuinely worth booking. In town, Senshu Park and the festival center fill a half day well.
