Three things Star Navigator & Star Voyager passengers should know

Immigration at the first Japanese port

Star Navigator sails from Keelung and Star Voyager from Hong Kong, so the first Okinawa port of each cruise is where you enter Japan. Every foreign passenger clears a face-to-face immigration inspection, with fingerprints, at the first Japanese port of the cruise. It happens once, not at every port. On a short call this can take a large part of the time ashore.

Expect a Chinese-language ship

StarCruises runs its Taiwan cruises with all-Chinese service and New Taiwan dollar billing. English-speaking guests should book shore plans in advance rather than rely on the tour desk.

Evening calls are common

Most Star Navigator Naha calls start at 12:00 or 15:00 and run to 21:00–23:59. Plan dinner ashore rather than a full-day trip.

Quick answers

Questions Star Navigator & Star Voyager passengers ask

Where do Star Navigator and Star Voyager call in Japan?

Star Navigator, based in Keelung (Taiwan), calls mainly at Naha, Ishigaki and Miyakojima, plus Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Sasebo, Kochi, Osaka and Kobe on longer sailings; it has 206 Japan calls on the port lists from October 2026 to December 2027. Star Voyager, sailing from Hong Kong, has 90 calls at Naha and Miyakojima from January to December 2027.

What language is used on board Star Navigator?

Chinese. StarCruises markets the Keelung programme to Taiwanese travellers with an all-Chinese service environment and payment in New Taiwan dollars.

Do I clear Japanese immigration on these cruises?

Yes, once, at the first Japanese port. Both ships start outside Japan (Keelung or Hong Kong), so foreign passengers have a face-to-face inspection with fingerprints when the ship first arrives in Okinawa or Kyushu.
