Can I see the Tateyama mountains from the port?
Not from the wharf itself. The classic view is from the Amaharashi Coast, 3 km north of the berth. Onna-iwa rock, the Himi-line train and the 3,000-metre range across the water. The Shinminato Bridge walkway gives the same mountains over the port. Both need clear air; Toyama has about 2,374 mm of rain a year, so have the museum plan ready.
Can I get to Gokayama or Shirakawa-go on a port day?
Gokayama (Ainokura) is 54 km from the Fushiki wharf, realistically about 70 minutes each way by car. It fits a 10-hour call by ship tour or private car, and then nothing else. Shirakawa-go is 73 km each way and not advisable on an 8–10 hour call without a guide. The World Heritage Bus from Takaoka Station takes about 80 minutes each way and runs a few times a day.
Do I need cash in Fushiki and Takaoka?
Yes. There is no ATM or convenience store mapped within 1.5 km of either berth. The nearest is Fushiki Post Office, about 700 m from the wharf, with ATM hours unverified. Get cash at Takaoka or Toyama Station. The Manyosen tram takes cash or IC cards, not credit cards, and temples, the Kaiwomaru and the fish market have no published card policy.
What is closed on a Wednesday?
A lot. The Kaiwomaru sailing ship is closed every Wednesday, and the Shinminato fish auction does not run on Wednesdays or Sundays. The Toyama Glass Art Museum closes on the first and third Wednesdays, and Nishicho Taiki’s main shop is shut. Zuiryuji, Shokoji and the Amaharashi deck are open. The Kitamaebune Museum closes on Tuesdays instead.
Can I ride the Matsukawa cherry-blossom boat in April?
If your call falls in the spring season, yes: the 2027 season is planned for 20 March – 25 April. Full bloom in Toyama is normally about 8 April. The boat takes about 30 minutes; the fare is ¥3,000 during the blossom period and ¥2,000 outside it (2027 fares not yet published), with no individual reservations. Buy at the Matsukawa Chaya in Toyama Castle Park, 10 minutes’ walk from Toyama Station. It does not run on Mondays, the day after a holiday, or in bad weather.
