Privacy

The short version

Port of Japan has no accounts, no sign-up forms and no display ads. We never sell or share personal data. We use Google Analytics to see which pages are useful, and some links to booking partners carry a tracking code so the partner can credit us for a referral.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people read. It sets cookies and records things like the pages you view, your approximate country and city, your device type and how you arrived. We have also enabled Google signals, which lets Google add aggregated, anonymous demographic information (such as age range) for visitors who are signed in to a Google account and have ad personalization turned on. We only ever see totals, never individuals.

You can opt out with Google'sAnalytics opt-out add-on, turn off personalization in yourGoogle ad settings, or block cookies in your browser. The site works the same either way. Google explains how it uses this data inHow Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Booking and partner links

When you follow a link to a partner such as Viator and book something, the partner may set its own cookies to credit us with a small commission. It costs you nothing and never decides what we recommend. Once you are on a partner's site, its own privacy policy applies.

Email

If you email a question through Ask the editor, we use your address only to reply. We never publish your email, and publish a first name or initials only if you say yes.
