About Yeosu

Yeosu is a port city on Korea's south coast, built around a harbour that Admiral Yi Sun-sin commanded in the 1590s. Its waterfront was rebuilt for Expo 2012, and the cruise berth sits inside that site, with the Sky Tower and the KTX terminus beside it. Across the Dolsan Bridge lies Dolsan island, with the cable car's far station at its near end and Hyangiram at its far tip.

Quick answers

Yeosu cruise port questions

Is a short (2-3 hour) call enough to see Yeosu?

Yes, if you plan it tightly. Our timed plan "Sky Tower, the Expo waterfront and Odongdo" runs ~2h door to door from the gangway and still banks 60 minutes before all-aboard. The minute-by-minute version is on the plans page at port-of-japan.com/yeosu/plans/.

How much can you do in Yeosu with 4-6 hours ashore?

The half-day is "Cable car, Odongdo and the old town" (~4.5h door to door) — every transit leg counted from the berth, with an escape route if you run late. The timed steps are on the plans page at port-of-japan.com/yeosu/plans/.

Which cruise ships call at Yeosu in 2026?

Westerdam all include Yeosu on their 2026 Japan itineraries. Each ship has its own guide on this site decoding every port it calls at, and this page carries plans sized to the hours each ship typically spends here. The full official 2026 call list — every ship with counts and seasons — is at port-of-japan.com/cruises-to/yeosu/.

How do you get from the Yeosu cruise terminal into town?

① Taxi from the rank at the terminal to the Jasan Park station, 2.6 km, about 7 min ② Or on foot: 2.3 km, about 30 min by our estimate, uphill at the end through the park ③ Cable car Jasan Park ⇄ Dolsan Park, 13 min each way. From the Jasan station, Odongdo’s lighthouse is 1.7 km, about 22 min on foot Fare: Taxi about ₩4,700 on the meter, our estimate · cable car ₩17,000 return standard, ₩24,000 crystal (glass floor); one way ₩14,000 / ₩19,000 · cards taken. Yeosu taxis: ₩4,300 for the first 2 km, then ₩100 per 130 m (tariff of November 2023; no later rise found). Foreign-card acceptance in taxis is not confirmed; carry won. The cable car does not go to Odongdo. A senior fare is not published. It stops in strong wind (secondary; the threshold is not published). For today's exact departure times, open Google Maps transit directions from the pier — local timetables change by day, and the app knows today's.

How do you get from the Yeosu cruise port to Odongdo?

① On foot from the terminal: 2.8 km, about 37 min, to the start of the breakwater; the lighthouse is 3.6 km, about 47 min — our estimates ② Or a taxi to the Odongdo entrance car park, 2.8 km, about 8 min ③ Then the 768 m breakwater on foot (about 15 min) or the Dongbaek train (about 5 min) Fare: Island free · Dongbaek train ₩1,000 one way, free at 65 and over and under 7 · taxi about ₩4,900, our estimate. Runs Train inbound 09:30–17:00, outbound 09:15–16:45, with a break 12:00–13:00. The island paths are hilly with steps (secondary). Free cruise shuttles reached Odongdo on 2026 Chinese-market ship days; whether they run for your ship is not confirmed. Card acceptance at the train kiosk is not confirmed.

How do you get from the Yeosu cruise port to Hyangiram hermitage?

① Taxi from the terminal: 26.6 km, 33 min without traffic, about 42 min in practice — our estimates ② Ask the driver to wait and agree a price; whether a return taxi can be found at the car park is not confirmed ③ From the car park the hermitage is about 15 min up steep steps, or by a gentler path Fare: About ₩28,500 each way on the meter, distance only, our estimate (inside Yeosu city, so no out-of-area surcharge) · hermitage free. Runs Open sunrise to sunset every day. The city’s Nangman tour bus Course 1 (Expo Station 10:30, Hyangiram 14:35–15:50, back 17:20; ₩10,000, ₩5,000 at 65+) returns after a 17:00 sailing, so on Holland America’s 08:00–17:00 calls Hyangiram means a taxi. It works for Azamara’s 20:00 and 22:00 departures; walk-up tickets are cash, and it does not run on the second Monday of the month. City buses 111, 111-1 and 116 reach the Impo stop below the hermitage but take an hour or more (secondary); not a port-day option. Holland America rates its own Hyangiram tour strenuous.

How many cruise ships visit Yeosu in 2026?

3 cruise calls are on the official Cruise-line itineraries (Holland America, Azamara, Mitsui Ocean Cruises) via iCruise, CruiseTimetables and cruisedig — neither the port authority nor the city publishes a dated schedule schedule for 2026 (Oct–Dec 2026 (Western and Japanese lines only; Chinese-market calls not counted)), 2 by international ships and 1 by Japanese-operated ships. Every ship and its season is listed at port-of-japan.com/cruises-to/yeosu/.

Where do cruise ships dock at Yeosu?

At the single cruise berth inside the north breakwater of the Expo port, beside the Expo 2012 site. The port authority lists one berth, 500 m long and 11 m deep, rated 150,000 GT; the Korea Tourism Organization’s data sheet says 170,000 GT. The largest ship so far was Spectrum of the Seas, 169,379 GT, on 13 May 2026. The building is the Yeosu Expo Passenger Ship Terminal, 320-66 Expo-daero, with customs, immigration and quarantine inside. Gwangyang, the cargo port of the same authority, has no cruise berth.

What is in the terminal?

Arrival and departure halls, snack bars and a waiting room. On ship days the official data sheet lists a temporary currency-exchange desk, a local-produce shop and a tourist information desk, with interpreters at immigration. No ATM and no Wi-Fi are mentioned on any official page, so neither is confirmed. A city study in June 2026 called the waiting hall cramped and immigration congested; allow 30–60 minutes off a 2,000-passenger ship, our estimate.

How far is the cable car from the ship?

The Jasan Park station is 2.3 km: about 30 minutes on foot by our estimate, uphill at the end. A taxi is about 7 minutes and ₩4,700. The ride to Dolsan Park takes 13 minutes each way. ₩17,000 return in a standard cabin, ₩24,000 in a glass-floor cabin; one way ₩14,000 or ₩19,000. It runs 09:30–21:30 every day and the ticket office takes cards. It does not go to Odongdo, whatever some port pages say; Odongdo is a separate 1.7 km walk from the Jasan station.

Can I do Suncheon Bay on a port day?

Only with a pre-booked car or the ship’s tour. The wetland is 39.7 km, about 51 minutes each way by our estimate. A taxi meter adds 35% once it leaves Yeosu, so around ₩57,500 each way before waiting time. Allow 4.5–5 hours door to door, which leaves no room for the cable car on an 08:00–17:00 call. Entry ₩10,000; the wetland and the National Garden close on the last Monday of each month, and the Skycube between them does not run on Mondays. Holland America sells it as a 4.5-hour tour with about 8 km of walking.

Do I need cash in Yeosu?

Some. The cable car, the Suncheon Bay ticket office and the Gyodong fish market take cards. City buses are ₩1,700 cash or ₩1,600 with a Korean transit card; whether they take tapped foreign cards is not confirmed. Walk-up tickets for the city tour bus are cash, and taxi card acceptance is not confirmed. No ATM is confirmed at the terminal and the exchange desk is temporary, so change money before Yeosu. Busan, the day before on the Westerdam loop, has bank ATMs.

Do I need a K-ETA or an e-Arrival Card for a cruise stop in Yeosu?

Nationals of the countries currently exempt from K-ETA (including the USA, UK, Canada and Australia) do not need one through 31 December 2026. Under-18s and over-64s are always exempt. Whether the exemption continues into 2027 had not been announced by 8 October 2026, so the 2027 calls may need it. The e-Arrival Card applies to exempt-country nationals without a K-ETA and can be filed from three days before arrival; no cruise-specific rule is published. Cruise passengers land on a permit arranged by the ship; follow your line’s instructions on K-ETA and the e-Arrival Card.

What is closed on a Monday? The 8 March 2027 call is one.

Hyangiram, the cable car, Odongdo, Jinnamgwan, the Gyodong fish market and Hwangso Sikdang are all open on Mondays. The Marine and Fisheries Science Museum is closed, Suncheon’s Skycube does not run, and both Suncheon parks close on the last Monday of the month. The Gyodong fish market closes on the second and fourth Tuesdays instead, and Romantic Pocha on the first Wednesday. The city tour bus takes the second Monday off; it returns at 17:20 anyway, after a 17:00 sailing.

Is there a shuttle from the terminal?

The Korea Tourism Organization’s data sheet says free sightseeing shuttles serve cruise calls. News reports confirm them on 2026 Chinese-market ship days, to Jinnamgwan, Yi Sun-sin Square, Odongdo and a market. Routes and times are not published, and whether they run for the Azamara and Holland America calls is not confirmed. A taxi rank is set up at the terminal on ship days. Plan on taxis and treat a shuttle as a bonus.
