Across the Dolsan Bridge lies Dolsan island, with the cable car's far station at its near end and Hyangiram at its far tip.

Ships come to Yeosu for one place, and it is not in the town. Hyangiram is a hermitage on the cliffs at the southern tip of Dolsan island, 26.6 km from the berth. You squeeze through gaps in the rock and climb steep steps to halls that look straight out to sea.
Everything else is close. Korea's first sea cable car crosses the bay in 13 minutes beside the Turtle Ship Bridge. Odongdo is a camellia islet on a breakwater. Jinnamgwan, the largest single-storey wooden hall in Korea, reopened in May 2025 after a ten-year rebuild. The town's crab street serves raw crab in soy.
What this port is not: a walk-off port with a shuttle. The berth sits inside the 2012 Expo site, so the Sky Tower and the KTX station are on foot. The town is 2.5–3 km away. No shuttle is confirmed for Western ships, no ATM is confirmed at the terminal, and the city's own tour bus returns after a 17:00 sailing.
This guide is built from the port authority's tables, the tourism organisation's cruise data sheet, the city's pages and the official taxi tariff. Calls come from the cruise lines' itineraries. Everything was checked on 8 and 9 October 2026.
There is nothing to choose. Every cruise ship uses the single cruise berth inside the north breakwater of the Expo port: 500 m long and 11 m deep. The port authority lists it for 150,000 GT, the tourism data sheet for 170,000 GT. Spectrum of the Seas, at 169,379 GT, used it on 13 May 2026. The 292 m passenger berth beside it is for ferries.
The building is the Yeosu Expo Passenger Ship Terminal, 320-66 Expo-daero, on the seaward edge of the Expo grounds. Tour operators call it the Yeosu Expo Cruise Terminal; the signs say 여수엑스포여객선터미널. Inside are 2 customs checkpoints, 12 immigration points, a quarantine booth and 3 security checks, then the car park.
On cruise days the city adds a currency-exchange desk, a local-produce shop and a tourist information desk. On 2026 ship days there were also interpreters in the CIQ area and a taxi rank outside. The city's June 2026 study calls the waiting hall cramped and CIQ congested, and wants a new terminal for 5,000 passengers at once. No site or date exists, so for 2026–27 this is the building you get.
Two things are not published for it: an ATM and Wi-Fi. Neither YGPA nor the city publishes a dated cruise schedule; the calls in this guide come from the lines' own itineraries. Most 2026 calls were Chinese-market ships that no public list names.
The Sky Tower car park is a 3-minute walk from the arrival hall, and everything inside the Expo grounds is flat. The town starts 2.5 km away, around Jasan Park and the old harbour.

Walking and road times are our estimates from map routing, with a quarter added to the road times for traffic. Taxi fares are the distance-only floor of the official Yeosu tariff: ₩4,300 for the first 2 km, then ₩100 per 130 m to 9 km and ₩140 beyond. Add 35% once the taxi leaves the city. No waiting time is included, and whether taxis take foreign cards is not published.
City buses cost ₩1,700 in cash or ₩1,600 by Korean transit card. Routes 111, 111-1 and 116 reach the Impo stop below Hyangiram, but the ride takes an hour or more and no timetable near the terminal is published. Leave them for another trip.
The Nangman city-tour bus is the trap. Course 1 leaves Expo Station at 10:30, gives Hyangiram 14:35–15:50 and returns at 17:20, twenty minutes after Westerdam and Noordam sail. It costs ₩10,000 (₩5,000 at 65 and over), with on-site tickets in cash if seats remain, and skips the second Monday of the month. Only the Azamara calls that sail at 20:00 or 22:00 can use it.
KTX from Expo Station reaches Seoul in about 3 hours. Seoul is not a port-day destination from here.
Hyangiram sits at 1 Hyangiram-ro at the far end of Dolsan. It is free and open sunrise to sunset all year. The city's page promises steep stairs climbed again and again from the car park; Holland America rates its own tour there strenuous. Older pages quoting ₩2,000 and 09:00–18:00 are out of date.
The road from the berth is 26.6 km, about 42 minutes by taxi in traffic and about ₩28,500 on the meter. The hermitage is inside the city, so no out-of-area surcharge applies. Rural return taxis at the car park are not confirmed, so agree a wait with your driver before you set off. Allow 3 hours door to door.
There are three ways to do it. A taxi you control, with the cable car and Odongdo on the way back, is the Westerdam model day below. Holland America has sold a Hyangiram Temple excursion of about 4 hours; its page was offline on 9 October 2026. The shared Viator day for cruise guests gives the hermitage 70 minutes inside an 8-hour loop.
During the 2026 Islands Expo (5 September – 4 November) the main venue is Jinmo, on the Dolsan road. The 14 and 29 October 2026 calls fall inside it, so add time to every Dolsan leg.
The Maritime Cable Car runs 1.5 km between Jasan Park on the mainland and Dolsan Park across the water. The ride is 13 minutes each way, past the Turtle Ship Bridge. It opens 09:30–21:30 every day, last ticket 21:00, and the ticket office takes cards. Standard cabins are ₩17,000 return and ₩14,000 one way; the glass-floor crystal cabins ₩24,000 and ₩19,000. A senior rate is not published, and the official site was unreachable when we checked.
It runs in rain and stops in strong wind. It does not go to Odongdo, whatever older port pages say. The Jasan station is on a hilltop 2.3 km from the terminal. That is 31 minutes on foot with the climb at the end, or about ₩4,700 by taxi.
Odongdo is 1.7 km down from the Jasan station, about 22 minutes, and 37 minutes from the ship. The islet is free and open all hours, with a 25 m lighthouse of 1952, a musical fountain and 2.5 km of forest paths that are hilly with steps. The Dongbaek train along the 768 m breakwater costs ₩1,000, free at 65 and over and under 7. It runs inbound 09:30–17:00 and outbound 09:15–16:45, with a break 12:00–13:00; on foot the breakwater takes about 15 minutes.
Jinnamgwan, at 11 Dongmun-ro, is National Treasure No. 304: the headquarters of the Jeolla Left Naval Command, dismantled in December 2015 and reopened at the end of May 2025 with 70 pillars and 54,000 hand-fired tiles. It is free, open 09:00–17:00 in winter and to 18:00 in summer, with a small Imjin War relic hall at the entrance. Allow 30 minutes, or 90 with Yi Sun-sin Square 10 minutes away, where a full-size turtle ship replica stands by the harbour.
The Gyodong fish market, by the coastal ferry terminal, is open 06:00–21:00 and closed on the second and fourth Tuesdays; cards are taken. You buy fish downstairs and have it cut and served upstairs. Every listed 2026–27 call day is a market day.
Inside the Expo grounds, the Sky Tower, two cement silos turned observation tower, is open 10:00–22:00 for about ₩3,000. Aqua Planet is open 09:30–19:00 for about ₩36,000–38,000, with a senior rate about ₩3,000 less. Aqua Planet is the rain plan, 16 minutes from the gangway.
Suncheon Bay Wetland, 39.7 km west, is reed beds, tidal flats and the Yongsan observatory, with hooded cranes in winter. Entry is ₩10,000, with a discount for paying by card; the official page lists no senior rate. Tickets run 08:00–17:00 from November to February and 08:00–18:00 in March, April, September and October. Both the wetland and the National Garden next door (₩10,000) close on the last Monday of the month, and the Skycube between them does not run on Mondays.
By taxi it is about 51 minutes each way and about ₩57,500 once the 35% out-of-area surcharge is added. That is 4.5–5 hours door to door and nothing else. On the 08:00–17:00 call that leaves no slack for the cable car. Holland America's Eco-Friendly Suncheon Bay tour is 4½ hours from US$189, with about 8 km of walking. A coach replaces the Skycube on Mondays.
Naganeupseong, the walled folk village, is 54.7 km and about 70 minutes each way, ₩4,000. It is for a car day with Suncheon or Holland America's 7-hour tour, not a taxi day.

Fits Westerdam on Monday 8 March 2027 and Thursday 29 October 2026, and Noordam on Saturday 16 October 2027, all 08:00–17:00 as the lines publish them. On 8 March 2027 everything on this route is open on a Monday.
The far thing first, then the bay by cable car, then the islet and the old town on the way back. Times assume 08:00–17:00, so all-aboard about 16:30 and our target back at the gangway 15:30. It is a taxi day: five rides, about ₩70,000 on the meter before waiting time.
Fits any call of 8 hours or more at the Expo berth. Built for 08:00–17:00; on the 08:00–20:00 Azamara calls, slow it down and add the Romantic Pocha carts at 18:00.
No taxi, no tour: about 12 km of walking at a steady pace, with the cable car and the breakwater train as the rides. Times assume 08:00–17:00 and a target back at the gangway of 15:30. The Sky Tower opens at 10:00, so it comes last.

An afternoon call cannot do Hyangiram and the town both. This day stays near the ship, then ends at the food carts under the Turtle Ship Bridge, which open at 18:00 from March to October. Times assume 13:00–20:00, all-aboard about 19:30, target gangway 18:30.
Work backwards from the ship. All-aboard is usually 30 minutes before departure (check the daily programme), and you want to be at the gangway an hour before that. The first half hour after arrival goes on CIQ, which has 12 immigration points for a ship of 2,000. So the time you can use is the call length minus about two hours.

The published Western calls are 9 hours (Westerdam twice, Noordam) and 12 hours (Azamara Pursuit and Quest). Azamara Pursuit has one 14-hour call in September 2027 and one 7-hour afternoon on 6 April 2027. Mitsui Ocean Fuji calls on 14 December 2026 with no times published. The list is on cruises to Yeosu.

Meets by the turtle ship at Yi Sun-sin Square, nearly 3 km from the terminal: a 38-minute walk or a taxi of about ₩5,200. It starts on time and does not wait.
The one listing written for cruise guests. Eight hours plus the usual margin is 9.5 hours, half an hour over the 9-hour Westerdam call. The record says the schedule is adjusted to the ship's docking and departure times, so confirm the shortened day in writing before you pay.

About the return to the ship. The catalogue for this port has three listings and only one is built for a ship day. The shared bus-or-van day (458105P50) says its staff wait at the terminal before you dock, and its inclusions read "100% Guaranteed on-time return to port", wording no other Yeosu listing carries. Its description adds "flexible scheduling that coordinates precisely with your ship's docking and departure times"; the listed 08:00 or 09:00 pickup is a placeholder, and you give your ship's name and a WhatsApp number at booking.
That is a promise from the operator, with no reviews yet to test it. Eight hours plus the usual margin is 9.5 hours, half an hour over the 9-hour calls. Confirm the shortened day in writing before you pay.
The 2-hour old-town walk (5615556P1) meets at Yi Sun-sin Square, 3 km from the ship, and does not wait for latecomers. The third listing (5664187P6) runs Seoul to Busan with an afternoon in Yeosu. It ends at Busan Station at 21:00 and is not a port-day tour.
Whatever you book, tell the guide your all-aboard time at the start and agree the gangway an hour before it.
Holland America's Yeosu pages (port code YOS) listed these six on 9 October 2026. Prices are "from", in US dollars; none includes a meal.

The Bridges tour is the only easy one and the only way to Boseong is the tea tour. A Hyangiram Temple tour, rated strenuous, has been sold here too; its page was offline on 9 October 2026. Suncheon's page says the tour ends watching the sunset, which cannot be literal on a 17:00 sailing.

There is no ATM confirmed at the terminal, and the nearest machine that takes foreign cards is not published. The exchange desk is set up for ship days only. On the Westerdam loop Busan is the day before, with bank ATMs; use them.
Entry. Yeosu is Korea, not Japan. Nationals of the countries currently exempt from K-ETA, the US among them, need none until 31 December 2026, and file the free e-Arrival Card instead. No extension into 2027 had been announced when we checked on 9 October 2026, so the 2027 calls may need one. Ages 17 and under and 65 and over are exempt by age. Follow your line's instructions; most lines file a group landing permit.
Closed days against the call dates. Every listed call is a market day at Gyodong. The 8 March 2027 Monday closes the Suncheon Skycube and the Marine Science Museum but nothing on the Hyangiram route. Romantic Pocha closes on the first Wednesday of most months; 6 April 2027 is a Tuesday.
Food on the route. The city's official list of ten Yeosu tastes starts with mustard-leaf kimchi from Dolsan, gejang baekban and seodae-hoe. Hwangso Sikdang on the crab street (08:00–20:20, daily) and Samhakjip by Yi Sun-sin Square (09:00–21:00, daily) are the two named places on the model days. The Romantic Pocha carts under the Turtle Ship Bridge open at 18:00 from March to October, so they are dinner on an evening call, never lunch.
The Big-O show on the Expo waterfront has its own tickets and no published 2026 schedule. It is an evening event, so it belongs to the Azamara calls if it runs.

The tourism data sheet says free sightseeing shuttles serve cruise calls, and 2026 news confirms them on Chinese-market ship days to Odongdo, Jinnamgwan and the markets. No route, timetable or confirmation exists for Western ships. A taxi rank is set up at the terminal on ship days; Jinnamgwan or the cable car is about ₩5,000.

For two hours in the old town, the walk from Yi Sun-sin Square (5615556P1, US$61). Holland America's six excursions run 3½–7 hours from US$129.
The city says they start in January and fully blossom in March; the tourism organisation gives February to April. The 8 March 2027 Westerdam call lands at the peak. The islet is free and open all hours; the breakwater train is ₩1,000, free at 65 and over, and pauses 12:00–13:00.
The Romantic Pocha street under the Turtle Ship Bridge opens at 18:00 from March to October and 17:00 in winter: 18 food carts, closed the first Wednesday of most months. The cable car runs to 21:30 and Dolsan Park has the night view of Dolsan Bridge. The Sky Tower is open to 22:00; the Big-O show's 2026 schedule is not published.
