Where ships dock in Kanazawa — Muryoji terminal, most ships. Kanazawa Station is about 25–35 minutes by bus 04; Kenroku-en 15–20 by taxi. Kanazawa is the Japan Sea's intact castle town, built by the Maeda lords, who ran Japan's richest domain and spent its money on art instead of armies. It is known for Kenroku-en, one of Japan's three great gardens, for the teahouse lanes of Higashi Chaya, and for gold leaf, nearly all of Japan's beaten here. Garden, teahouses and Omicho market lie within about a kilometre of each other, 7–8 km from where your ship docks.

Ships at Ohama Wharf (MSC Bellissima) have no usable daytime bus: shuttle or taxi (~¥3,700 to the station) Fare: ¥310. Suica/ICOCA-type cards are not accepted on Hokutetsu route buses; pay cash (¥1,000 notes changed on board), a Hokutetsu ICa card, or tap a contactless Visa/Mastercard/JCB/Amex on and off. The Loop Bus in town does take Suica-type cards. For today's exact departure times, open Google Maps transit directions from the pier — local timetables change by day, and the app knows today's.
① Get to Kanazawa Station (above) ② Castle Town Loop Bus from Station East exit, stop 7 — get off at Kenrokuen-shita·Kanazawa Castle Fare: ¥220 per ride (day pass ¥800 — buy before boarding, not sold on the bus). Runs every 15–20 min. The old "Kenrokuen Shuttle" was abolished in 2021 — the Loop Bus is the one that exists.

The last decade has run roughly 5–6 days earlier than those normals, and the date wanders by a week or more each year. Maples at the nearest JMA observation tree turn around Nov 24 by the 1991–2020 normals — and recent years have run later. Kanazawa sits on the Hokuriku coast, which averages 2.8 typhoon approaches a year (JMA 1991–2020 normals) — the peak is August to September. No — the 2020-built terminal is about 5 km from Kanazawa Station: route 04 bus about 25–35 minutes (¥310; no Suica-type cards) or about 15 minutes by taxi (~¥2,600). Allow about an hour door to door to Kenroku-en by public transport. Weekend buses back to the port stop at 15:45. Once downtown, the garden-castle-market triangle connects easily by loop bus. The largest ships berth at Ohama Wharf, a cargo quay with no terminal and no usable daytime bus.
Choose the garden. Kenroku-en is one of Japan’s three great gardens and holds its rank in any season; Higashi Chaya is lovely but similar quarters exist elsewhere in Japan. On a call of about 8 hours you can do both plus an Omicho lunch; on a 6-hour call, do Kenroku-en and Omicho only.
