Sasebo is a navy town, a fishing village of 4,000 when the Imperial Navy chose its deep sheltered harbour in the 1880s, and home to two navies today. It is known for Kujukushima, a drowned coastline of 208 islands north of the harbour mouth, and for the Sasebo burger, which the US Navy brought around 1950. Most ships tie up at Miura, five minutes' walk from the station and eight from a kilometre of covered arcade.

From Miura Wharf: the station is a 5-min walk (terminal leaflet); the arcade starts just beyond From Uragashira, the city lists a free water bus to Sasebo Station, about 20 min (it may not run at all times); a taxi is about 20 min (14 km). For today's exact departure times, open Google Maps transit directions from the pier — local timetables change by day, and the app knows today's.
① Saihi Bus from Sasebo Station stop 6 — follow the destination sign "Pearl Sea Resort / Kujukushima Aquarium", 18–27 min Fare: ¥390. Runs about hourly from the station (weekdays 9:31–16:31); back from Pearl Sea about hourly to 16:00 — at weekends nothing back between 14:59 and 17:04. These buses show a destination, not a route number — go by the sign. Pay cash as you get off (take a numbered ticket when you board); IC acceptance not confirmed.

Two places. Most ships, including the biggest (MSC Bellissima), use Miura Wharf in the city centre: the Sasebo Port International Terminal is a 5-minute walk from Sasebo Station and the covered arcade. Some ships, often on two-ship days, use the Sasebo Cruise Center at Uragashira across the bay: the city runs a free water bus to Sasebo Station (about 20 minutes) and a free shuttle bus to Huis Ten Bosch (about 10 minutes), though the shuttle “may not be available at all times”. From Uragashira, Huis Ten Bosch is the natural day.
Essentially none bookable through the usual channels, and you will not need one. From the central Miura berth the covered arcade starts five minutes away, the Kujukushima sightseeing boat is a public service with a fixed fare, Tenkaiho is a short bus or taxi, and Huis Ten Bosch is twenty minutes by train. From Uragashira, take the free water bus to Sasebo Station (about 20 minutes) or the free shuttle bus to Huis Ten Bosch (about 10 minutes). This is a walk-it and ride-it port.
A definition rather than a recipe: hand-made to order after the customer orders it, using local ingredients, with no fixed specification beyond that. It descends from hamburgers introduced by the US Navy in the 1950s, and the city certifies shops that meet the rule — there are dozens, and no two burgers are the same.
