Lemon steak is thin beef on a hot iron plate with a soy and lemon sauce, created in a Sasebo restaurant in the 1950s for American sailors who wanted steak and Japanese cooks who wanted it to taste of something. The remaining sauce is poured over rice, which is the part locals insist on.
