PickupOn requestThe listing offers pickup but names only "JR line, right outside the ticketing gate": enter Kobe Port Terminal and your ship when booking, and ask which station gate if no pickup is confirmed.
Why it is on this site
  • The route is agreed with you after booking; the operator says it gets in touch within 48 hours to plan the day and fix the meeting point, and can add sake tasting or end at a Kobe beef restaurant.
  • The operator rates it suitable for all fitness levels and wheelchair accessible, with four or seven hours to choose from.
  • 25 reviews average 4.8, the price is per person with groups of up to 8, and it was open on 12 of the 16 upcoming Kobe ship days we checked on 25 October 2026.
Best for

Couples or a family who want to stay in Kobe rather than go to Kyoto, on a call of 7 hours or more for the four-hour version.

Think twice if

The listed start is a JR line ticket gate with no station named, and the operator only fixes the meeting point after booking, so ask for the cruise terminal and get it in writing. Food, drinks and transport within the city are extra, and entry fees are paid for the guide too: Sorakuen ¥300 and the Nunobiki ropeway ¥1,800 per person. The Nunobiki stop says an eight-hour day is recommended for the falls, which the four- or seven-hour options do not offer.

What the operator lists

The day, stop by stop

  1. Minatogawa Shrine · 20 minOne of the two most popular shrines in Kobe City. It is a shrine, and for this one, it is more muted... without the famous orange/red every where. Very popular for many different important celebrations for locals.
  2. Meriken Park · 1 hrWe will be passing through Harbor land and Meriken Park. This is a beautiful port area for both locals and travelers alike. In Meriken there are many eateries and shops to browse.
  3. Kobe Motomachi Shopping Street · 1 hrThe place where locals love to shop. Closer to Daimaru store, the shops are more so cosmopolitan, and going towards the Kobe Station side, you see a mix of new, and old (many generations owned stores).
  4. Chinatown (Nankinmachi) · 20 minChina Town nestled on the side of Motomachi. You will feel like you are in a totally different area from when you step into this street. You feel like you are not even in Japan anymore.
  5. Ikuta-Jinja Shrine · 20 minOne of two most popular shrines in Kobe City. Vibrant colors, old history, and getting to this shrine is fun because you go through the entertainment part of Kobe.
  6. Kobe · 1 hrWhat OTHER INTERESTS did you have in mind? Sake Tasting? We can either go to a local brewery museum, or go to a popular sake bar. Your choice, just let us know.
  7. Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens · 2 hr8-hour Experience is recommended if you would like Nunobiki Falls included. Nunobiki features the flowers that bloom in the season you visit. As you walk down the garden paths, you have views of the Kobe City Ocean/Sky line along the way.
  8. Kobe · 1 minWant to try KOBE BEEF? ...oh yeah! We can end your tour at a recommended restaurant, so you can take your time enjoying. If you prefer to have Kobe Beef for lunch during your experience, we can do that too :-)
  9. Sorakuen Garden · 30 minPrior Kobe City Mayors private residence. On the grounds, a European designed horse stable, beautiful Japanese gardens with hidden areas to explore, and an old boat house. Also transplanted here is a home from a foreign settler tradesman; and most days we are able to tour through this home.

A ship’s excursion comes with one promise nothing else can make: the ship waits for its own bus. An independent booking does not, which is why every day on this site is cut to the call with an hour kept before all-aboard. What you get for the difference is usually a smaller group, a start at the pier rather than a coach queue, and free cancellation until the day before.

Princess Cruises prices as shown on its public Kobe excursion page on 25 October 2026, per person, before any sailing-specific change. Tour prices on this page are the operator’s current from price.

Quick answers

Before you book

Is the Kobe City's Best Gems - Private Shore Excursion from Kobe Port worth it from the Kobe cruise port?

A private four- or seven-hour walk around Kobe with an English-speaking local host from The City Panorama: the two main shrines, Meriken Park, Motomachi, Chinatown, and Nunobiki or Sorakuen if you want them. Best for: Couples or a family who want to stay in Kobe rather than go to Kyoto, on a call of 7 hours or more for the four-hour version.

How long a port call do I need for this tour?

About 7 hours. The tour runs 4 hr – 7 hr; add half an hour to get off the ship and keep the hour before all-aboard free. Four hours with the host, about half an hour each way between the pier and a JR station in the centre, and two hours for getting ashore and returning early: a call of seven hours; the seven-hour version needs ten.

Can I cancel if my ship skips the port?

The operator's policy: For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time. The operator may cancel for bad weather, with a refund.

What should I know before booking?

The listed start is a JR line ticket gate with no station named, and the operator only fixes the meeting point after booking, so ask for the cruise terminal and get it in writing. Food, drinks and transport within the city are extra, and entry fees are paid for the guide too: Sorakuen ¥300 and the Nunobiki ropeway ¥1,800 per person. The Nunobiki stop says an eight-hour day is recommended for the falls, which the four- or seven-hour options do not offer.

Does this tour pick up at the cruise pier?

Pickup at the cruise terminal is on request: ask for it when you book and sail only once the operator has confirmed it.

Will I be back on board before all-aboard?

The operator makes no written on-time promise, so the margin is yours to keep. This site only shows the tour as fitting a call of about 7 hours or more, which already includes half an hour to get ashore and the hour before all-aboard. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before means a reservation costs nothing to hold if your ship’s hours change.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Per person, from about US$126, on a private basis.
