Why Repatriation Memorial Museum is famous
After 1945 about 660,000 Japanese returned through Maizuru from Siberia and the continent, over thirteen years, many after years in Soviet labour camps. The museum holds their letters and diaries, and that collection is on the UNESCO Memory of the World register.
