The story

Why Tanabe Castle site is famous

Tanabe Castle was held in 1600 by Hosokawa Fujitaka, a poet-general, against a force many times his size. The siege is said to have ended when the emperor intervened to save the secret poetic traditions Fujitaka alone carried. The gate and a small museum remain.
