Here is a sentence from a real passenger forum that explains why this page exists: “Our invoice says Tokyo (Yokohama) — and apparently our sister ship docks in actual Tokyo.” Both are true. “Tokyo” on a cruise brochure is a region, and it resolves to one of three very different piers. Booking a pre-cruise hotel before you know which one is how people end up 45 minutes from their own gangway on embarkation morning.
From the official 2026 schedules of both ports, here is who actually goes where.
The three piers, honestly
Yokohama Osanbashi Pier — the good one. An architectural landmark in downtown Yokohama: Minato Mirai, Chinatown and 2,000 hotel rooms within a flat walk. If your ship uses Osanbashi, sleep in Yokohama, not Tokyo.
Yokohama Daikoku Pier — the logistics one. Reserved for ships too tall for the Bay Bridge. Nothing is walkable; shuttles are the only exit. Fine as a port of call, awkward as your embarkation point — but you don’t choose it, your ship’s height does.
Tokyo International Cruise Terminal (TICT), Odaiba — the new one. A striking building on Tokyo Bay with, so far, thin transport: the Yurikamome line station is ~8 minutes’ walk, Shimbashi is ~16 minutes and ¥390 away, and there is no shuttle network. Taxi to the Tokyo Station area runs roughly ¥4,000–6,000.

Getting there from the airports
To Yokohama (Osanbashi / Shinko / Daikoku):
- From Haneda: Keikyu airport bus to YCAT (Yokohama City Air Terminal, at Yokohama Station) — ~25–30 min, ¥800. Then taxi
10 min to Osanbashi (¥1,000–1,500). This is the gentle option with suitcases. - From Narita: airport limousine bus to YCAT — ~85–110 min, ~¥3,700. Budget two hours door to door; passengers report exactly that with traffic.
- YCAT also solves the luggage problem: staffed storage, ¥1,000/day per piece, 4:30–25:00 — worth knowing, because Osanbashi itself has only 28 coin lockers.
To Tokyo TICT: rail all the way — Yurikamome from Shimbashi — or a taxi from your Tokyo hotel. There is no airport bus to the cruise terminal itself.
The decision in one line
Find your ship in the table, then book the hotel: Osanbashi/Shinko → sleep in Yokohama (cheaper than Tokyo, zero lodging tax, 30 minutes from the capital anyway); TICT → sleep in Tokyo, south side; Daikoku → sleep in Yokohama and budget for the shuttle. And whichever pier it is, arrive in Japan two nights early — the jet-lag math at 55+ is not negotiable.
