Fly into Haneda if you can. The five cruise terminals that serve “Tokyo” sit on Tokyo Bay, and Haneda is on the same bay: the terminal operators put it about 25 minutes by car from both Tokyo terminals, and Keikyu puts Haneda Terminal 3 23 minutes by train from Yokohama Station. Narita is about 60 to 70 minutes by car from the Tokyo terminals, and its buses and fixed-fare taxis cost three to four times as much. Narita still works, and the table below gives its numbers too, but the airport decides whether your first day in Japan is a short ride or a long one. Every fare and time here is from the operator’s or airport’s own page, accessed 28 October 2026; where a page gives no figure, we say so rather than guess.

Which terminal are you going to?

Yokohama has three passenger terminals: Osanbashi, Shinko Pier (Yokohama Hammerhead) and Daikoku Pier. Tokyo has two: the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal at Aomi on the Odaiba waterfront, and Harumi. The Tokyo operator’s own page warns that passengers frequently go to the wrong terminal and asks everyone to check the ship name and terminal name on their documents. If your paperwork says only “Tokyo”, read which port you will actually get before you book anything else.

Haneda to Yokohama: the three ways

The direct bus. Keikyu Bus’s Haneda Airport to Yamashita Park, Minato Mirai and Red Brick Warehouse route is ¥1,000 for adults and ¥500 for children. Its stop list runs through YCAT, Yamashita Park, the Rose Hotel in Chinatown, Shin-Kenchomae, Bashamichi and the Red Brick Warehouse; there is no Osanbashi stop, so you walk out along the pier from Yamashita Park or Shin-Kenchomae. Haneda Airport’s own access page gives about 24 minutes to Yamashita Park and 43 minutes to the Red Brick Warehouse. Large suitcases go in the underfloor hold, at the operator’s stated no-liability terms. Buy the ticket at the arrivals-hall machine or counter or use a transit IC card; contactless credit cards are accepted only toward Haneda.

The YCAT bus plus a taxi or train. The Haneda to YCAT bus is ¥800 (child ¥400), first come, first served, with IC cards and contactless credit cards accepted on board. Haneda Airport lists it at about 30 minutes. A late-night service from Haneda to YCAT and Sakuragicho is ¥2,000. From Yokohama Station, the Minatomirai Line reaches Nihon-odori for Osanbashi (7 minutes on foot from exits 3 or 4) and Bashamichi for Hammerhead (10 minutes from exit 4), on the city’s figures.

The fixed-fare taxi. The Kanagawa Taxi Association’s fixed fare from Haneda to Nishi ward and the Minato Mirai part of Naka ward is ¥8,800, or ¥10,300 between 22:00 and 05:00, plus expressway tolls, valid from 1 February 2024 to 31 January 2027. The association notes that the Terminal 3 taxi rank for Kanagawa-bound fixed fares is suspended, so fixed-fare riders use the Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 ranks; Haneda’s taxi page lists stops 1 and 17 at T1 and 2 and 20 at T2 for Kawasaki, Yokohama, Yokosuka and Miura. Osanbashi lies in Naka ward outside Minato Mirai, so ask the company whether the fixed fare applies.

Narita to Yokohama

The limousine bus to YCAT is ¥4,000 (child ¥2,000); YCAT says it can be reserved from one month before travel until five minutes before departure, and that tickets bought at the YCAT machines on the day are sold for seats still free five minutes before departure. JR East’s Narita Express is ¥4,480 to Yokohama Station in an ordinary car, with all seats reserved. The fixed-fare taxi from Narita to Yokohama city is ¥37,500 plus tolls, ¥44,500 from 22:00 to 05:00.

The Tokyo terminals

For the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal, the operator’s route from either airport is the same: the Airport Limousine Bus to the Hilton or Grand Nikko Tokyo Odaiba, about 2 minutes on foot to Daiba station, one stop on the Yurikamome to Tokyo International Cruise Terminal station, then about 8 minutes on foot. The bus is ¥1,000 from Haneda and ¥3,100 to ¥3,600 from Narita, depending on the stop. The Yurikamome one-day pass is ¥820 for adults. By car the operator gives about 25 minutes from Haneda and 60 from Narita.

For Harumi, no station is within walking distance. The operator’s airport route is the limousine bus to Toyosu Station (20 to 35 minutes from Haneda, about an hour from Narita) and about 10 minutes from there. From Tokyo Station, Toei bus 05-1 leaves the Marunouchi South Exit and takes about 30 minutes to Harumi Futo, 1 minute from the terminal. The Tokyo BRT stop Harumirai is about a 10-minute walk.

Narita Airport’s fixed-fare taxi table puts Koto ward, Daiba and Higashi-Yashio in zone B at ¥28,000 by either expressway route, and Chuo ward in zone C at ¥29,000 via the Keiyo Road or ¥31,000 via the Bayshore route. Tolls are extra, a surcharge applies from 22:00 to 05:00, and a trip on ordinary roads goes on the meter. We could not read the Tokyo Hire-Taxi Association’s separate chart for Haneda fixed fares to Tokyo, so no Haneda taxi fare for the Tokyo terminals appears here.

Luggage, and how early to arrive

Osanbashi’s FAQ says the terminal does not take delivery of luggage on passengers’ behalf and has no permanent courier counter; it tells passengers to ask the cruise line about sending bags ahead. Yamato’s Airport TA-Q-BIN needs bags by two days before your departure date, three in some areas, so it is a tool for the way home, not the way in. The practical plan is the one in our pre-cruise hotel playbook: fly in the day before, sleep near the terminal, and move the bags once.

How early to be at the pier is set by your cruise line, not the terminal; neither operator publishes a passenger arrival time. The Tokyo terminal’s page gives its own hours as 9:00 to 17:00 except on ship days. The detailed timelines, hotel districts and the last buses are in the Yokohama and Tokyo embarkation guides; for the port-day version of each city, see the Yokohama and Tokyo hubs, the calendar for your ship’s dates and getting around for the first ten minutes ashore.

Questions this raises

How do I get from Haneda to the Yokohama cruise terminal?

Keikyu Bus runs an airport bus from Haneda to Yamashita Park, Shin-Kenchomae, Bashamichi and the Red Brick Warehouse for ¥1,000 (child ¥500); Haneda Airport lists it as about 24 minutes to Yamashita Park, the stop nearest the Osanbashi pier road, and 43 minutes to the Red Brick Warehouse near Shinko Pier. The bus to YCAT at Yokohama Station is ¥800 and about 30 minutes, first come, first served. A pre-booked fixed-fare taxi to Nishi ward or the Minato Mirai part of Naka ward is ¥8,800 plus tolls (¥10,300 from 22:00 to 05:00).

How do I get from Narita to the Yokohama cruise terminal?

From Yokohama Station, Osanbashi is a 7-minute walk from Nihon-odori on the Minatomirai Line and Shinko Pier is 10 minutes from Bashamichi.

How do I get from Haneda or Narita to the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal?

The terminal operator gives about 25 minutes by car from Haneda and about 60 minutes from Narita. The Airport Limousine Bus to the Odaiba and Ariake area is ¥1,000 from Haneda and ¥3,100 to ¥3,600 from Narita; the operator says get off at the Hilton or Grand Nikko, walk about 2 minutes to Daiba station and ride the Yurikamome one stop, then walk about 8 minutes from Tokyo International Cruise Terminal station. How early should I arrive at the cruise terminal on embarkation day?

The terminal operators publish no arrival time for passengers; your cruise line's documents set the check-in window, and the Tokyo terminal's operator warns that passengers often go to the wrong terminal, so confirm the terminal name first. The Tokyo International Cruise Terminal opens 9:00 to 17:00 on non-ship days. For luggage, Yamato's Airport TA-Q-BIN needs bags two days before a flight, and the Yokohama terminal says it does not accept luggage on passengers' behalf, so plan the bags around the hotel, not the pier.
