Why Rickshaw through the old town is famous
Rickshaws are a Meiji-era invention, briefly Japan's main urban transport before trams, now kept alive by pullers who work as guides. In Kagoshima the route threads the Shimazu-era streets below Shiroyama, and the value is the commentary: these are people who can point at an ordinary wall and tell you which siege it survived.
