Why Tosa washi & forged knives is famous

Tosa washi is paper made here for over a thousand years, including tengujoshi, at one point the thinnest handmade paper in the world and still used by museums to repair documents. Tosa forged blades were shaped by the same domain's demand for farm tools, and the smiths still make knives to order.
Kochi is 84% forest — the highest of any Japanese prefecture — with fast clean rivers running through it. That single fact produced both the thinnest handmade paper in the world and the knives Japanese farmers have used for six centuries.
