The story

Why Jodogahama Beach is famous

White rhyolite spires standing in still water, named by a 17th-century monk who said it resembled the Pure Land, the Buddhist paradise. The pebbles are white, which is why the water reads pale green. It is the centrepiece of Sanriku Fukko National Park, created after the 2011 tsunami.
