Why we send people here

A pocket museum of the boat-train era, when Tokyo–Tsuruga–Vladivostok was the fastest way from Japan to Paris. Free, and honestly twenty minutes is enough. 9:00–17:00; closed Wednesdays (the next day if Wednesday is a holiday) and over New Year.

The story

Why Former Tsuruga Port Station is famous

Tsuruga Port Station was the terminus of the boat-train from Tokyo, where passengers boarded for Vladivostok and then Europe. A reproduction of the 1913 station building now explains the route. For about thirty years, this was where Japan connected to the world overland.
