Why we send people here

1905 oil warehouses reborn as a rail diorama (¥400; 9:30–17:30, last entry 17:00) and a restaurant wing — the easy lunch answer in the museum quarter. Closed Wednesdays.

The story

Why Red Brick Warehouse is famous

Two brick warehouses built in 1905 by a foreign oil company, from the years when Tsuruga was the Japanese end of a route running through to Europe by way of the Trans-Siberian. One now holds a large diorama of the port as it was in that era, which is the clearest explanation of why this small town had international trains.
