Fukui’s original katsudon — thin cutlets dipped in dark sauce, no egg. The Tsuruga honten opened in 1939. 11:00–14:00 lunch only; closed Mon–Tue.

The story

Why Sauce katsudon at Europe-ken is famous

Sauce katsudon is Fukui's version: pork cutlet dipped in a thin Worcestershire-style sauce and laid on rice, with no egg and no onion. It was created at Europe-ken in 1913 by a cook who had trained in Berlin. The shop still serves it and the recipe has not been modernised.
