Why we send people here

A stream valley so composed it looks landscaped — mossy boulders, beech light, waterfalls every few hundred meters. The one public bus takes two hours ten each way, so it only fits a 13-hour call. The gorge walking path reopened in full on 10 September 2025 after the August 2025 flood.

The story

Why Oirase Gorge (seasonal) is famous

A 14-kilometre mountain stream flowing out of Lake Towada, with a walking path beside the water the whole way. It is nationally designated as both a Place of Scenic Beauty and a Natural Monument. The reason it is seasonal is simple: the road closes in winter and the point is the leaves. From Aomori the JR Bus Mizuumi-go takes about two hours ten each way (¥2,820) and runs only until 11 November 2026. The gorge walking path reopened in full on 10 September 2025 after the August 2025 flood.
