Incheon (Seoul) Cruise Port: The Complete Guide for 2026–27

Updated 1 October 2026 · 31 official and operator sources · Researched from official timetables, operators and the port authority · Takumi Yamada

Your itinerary says Seoul, but every ship docks at the Incheon Port Cruise Terminal in Songdo, 48 km from central Seoul and 7 km from the nearest subway station. On the commonest call, 12 hours, Seoul works if you choose one area: Gyeongbokgung palace with the guard ceremony and the Bukchon lanes, about 70–110 minutes each way by taxi or two hours by taxi and train. Incheon's own old port (Korea's first Chinatown, where jajangmyeon noodles began, plus the Sinpo Market fried chicken and the Wolmido sea train) is 20–35 minutes away and fits any call of 8 hours. Decide before you land: Seoul, which spends four hours on the road, or the old port, which spends one.

Why people sail here

The three reasons to get off the ship in Incheon

Seoul: Gyeongbokgung and the Bukchon lanes

The main royal palace of the Joseon kings, with the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony at its gate at 10:00 and 14:00, and the lived-in hanok lanes of Bukchon a short walk above it. For most passengers it is the reason the itinerary says 'Seoul'. Entry is ₩3,000, and free for foreign visitors aged 65 and over who show a passport.

From the ship Taxi from the terminal's Gate 2 rank, about 70–110 minutes and roughly ₩55,000–75,000 each way (our estimate, including the 30% out-of-city surcharge). Or taxi to International Business District station, Incheon Line 1 and the AREX train: about 2 hours 10 minutes and ₩2,400–2,700 in fares plus ₩8,000–9,000 for the taxi.

Chinatown and the birthplace of jajangmyeon

Korea's first Chinatown grew up when the port opened in 1883. The old Gonghwachun restaurant building, widely credited as the first place to serve jajangmyeon (black-bean noodles), is now the Jajangmyeon Museum. Eat a bowl two streets away, then walk to Sinpo Market for dakgangjeong, the twice-fried glazed chicken.

From the ship Taxi 20–30 minutes, about ₩12,000–15,000 (our estimate), or the city's free cruise-day shuttle to the Gaehangjang (Chinatown) area when it runs.

Wolmido, the Sea Train and the Emigration Museum

An elevated sea-view train loops from beside Incheon Station round the old island of Wolmido. It stops near Wolmi Park and the free Korean Emigration History Museum, and your ticket includes one free re-boarding the same day. It is closed on Mondays.

From the ship The Sea Train's Wolmi Bada station is about 5 minutes' walk from Chinatown. From the ship, a taxi takes 25–35 minutes and costs about ₩14,000–17,000 (our estimate).

Why Incheon is worth getting off the ship for

Most passengers booked this port for Seoul: the Joseon palaces, the guard ceremony at Gwanghwamun, the hanok lanes of Bukchon, the food alley at Gwangjang Market. You can reach it from the ship, but the itinerary's "Seoul (Incheon)" hides a 48 km drive. Seoul is a day with four hours of travel in it, and it works only when you choose one part of the city.

The other half of the answer is closer and gets less attention. Incheon was the port that opened Korea to the world in 1883, and the treaty-port town it built is 20–35 minutes from the ship: Korea's first Chinatown, the restaurant building where jajangmyeon is credited as first served (now a museum), Sinpo Market and its twice-fried glazed chicken, and the Wolmi Sea Train round the old island. It is a full day with one hour of travel in it, and on any call of eight hours it fits comfortably.

So this guide starts with a choice rather than a list: Seoul, or the old port? The answer depends on your call length, the day of the week and how much margin you want. Everything below comes from the Incheon Port Authority's call table and terminal pages, the Korea Heritage Service, the Sea Train and museum operators and the taxi tariff, all checked on 30 September 2026. Nobody from this site has walked this port. Taxi times and fares are our estimates from map routing and the official tariff, and are marked as such.

What Incheon is not: a port you walk out of. The terminal stands on reclaimed land at the tip of Songdo, with no bus stop at the door. Every plan starts at the taxi rank, on the city shuttle or with a tour.

First: which berth are you at?

There is one answer for every call from 1 October 2026: the Incheon Port Cruise Terminal (인천항 크루즈터미널), 438 Gukjehangman-daero, Yeonsu-gu. It opened in April 2019, has a 430 m quay rated for one ship of up to 225,000 tons, and handles every call on the port authority's current table. That table has no berth column; its older 2020 version, which did, listed the cruise terminal for every call.

Best forEverything starts with a taxi, the city shuttle or a tour

Two things people confuse with it. The International Passenger Terminal, 3.2 km away by road, is for the ferries to China, not cruise ships. And the port authority's access page still contains directions to two piers in the Inner Port near Sinpo station, but those are hidden in the page code, not shown to visitors. A small ship could in principle be sent there, where Sinpo Market would be a 5-minute walk, but no current source says any ship will. If your daily programme names a different pier, the Chinatown and Sinpo plans below get much shorter.

Getting from the cruise terminal into Incheon and Seoul

The taxi rank is at Gate 2 on the ground floor. The city says it has added taxi and call-van dispatch on cruise days and briefed drivers not to refuse short fares. The Incheon tariff is ₩4,800 for the first 1.6 km, then ₩100 per 135 m, or per 33 seconds when the car is crawling; leaving the city adds 30%.

The times and fares are our estimates from road distances and the official tariff: floors, not quotes. Only the 15 minutes to IBD station is the port authority's own figure.

The free city shuttle. On cruise days Incheon City and the Incheon Tourism Organization run free buses from the terminal to Sinpo International Market, the Gaehangjang area (Chinatown and Wolmido), Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo and traditional markets. Two weaknesses: no timetable is published, so you do not know the last bus back until you ask, and on 20 March 2025 it was cancelled at short notice for a 2,000-passenger ship, whose passengers then took more than two hours to get away by taxi. Ask at the information desk as you come off, and keep enough won for a taxi back whatever they tell you. No city shuttle goes to Seoul. Some cruise lines run their own paid shuttles; check your daily programme.

Incheon to Seoul: what is actually possible

There are two ways to Seoul on your own, and both cost a morning and an afternoon of travel.

  • Taxi all the way. 48 km to Gwanghwamun, about 70–110 minutes each way depending on traffic, roughly ₩55,000–75,000 each way with the out-of-city surcharge and tolls. Map routing without traffic says under an hour, which is not realistic in daytime. For two to four people sharing, it is the fastest and most flexible choice. The weak point is the return: a Seoul taxi may decline the run to a cruise terminal outside the city, a driver's choice that passengers report.
  • Taxi and two trains. Taxi 15 minutes to International Business District station, Incheon Line 1 to Gyeyang (about 57 minutes), then the AREX all-stop train to Seoul Station (about 30 minutes): about 2 hours to Seoul Station and 2 hours 10 minutes to Gyeongbokgung. Fares are about ₩2,400–2,700 each way on T-money. It is slower and more tiring, but its timing does not depend on traffic.

The round trip costs 2.5 to 4.5 hours, which sets the rule for the day:

  • 12 hours or more (the commonest call here): about 5 hours in Seoul by taxi, 4 by train. Enough for one area. Leave Seoul by 14:30 on a 07:00–19:00 call.
  • 10 hours: possible by taxi, with about 3.5 hours on the ground. A tour that promises the return in writing is the safer way to do it.
  • 8 hours or less: not a sensible Seoul day on your own. Do Incheon.

Which area? For a first visit, Gyeongbokgung with the guard ceremony and Bukchon; they are a 15–20-minute walk apart. The alternatives are Gyeongbokgung plus Gwangjang Market for lunch, or Changdeokgung and its Secret Garden, which is closed on Mondays and needs a timed entry slot. N Seoul Tower (₩29,000; ₩23,000 for 65+) takes about an hour and a half and will not fit alongside a palace on most calls.

The DMZ is not a realistic independent trip: Imjingak is 75 km away (90–120 minutes each way), the ticket window is open only 09:00–14:30, it is closed on Mondays and weekday public holidays, and you must carry your physical passport. On the two overnight calls it is a reasonable second day with a ship's tour. None of the tours in our catalogue goes there.

Gyeongbokgung and Bukchon: how to do them well

Gyeongbokgung is open 09:00–18:00 in September and October (last entry 17:00), 09:00–17:00 from November to February (last entry 16:00), and closed on Tuesdays. If a Tuesday is a public holiday, it opens as normal. Admission is ₩3,000 for foreign visitors aged 19–64. Foreign visitors 65 and over, and 18 and under, get in free with proof of age; for most readers of this site, that means bring the passport. Give it an hour and a half to two hours: the Geunjeongjeon throne hall, the Gyeonghoeru pavilion on its pond, the courtyards behind.

The Royal Guard Changing Ceremony at Gwanghwamun, the palace's main gate, runs at 10:00 and 14:00 for about 20 minutes. There is also a 10-minute gate-watch ceremony at 11:00 and 13:00 and guard training at 09:35 and 13:35. By taxi from a 07:00 arrival you can make the 10:00 ceremony; by train you cannot. The ceremony is widely reported not to be held on days the palace is closed.

Bukchon Hanok Village is a residential district, and since November 2024 its core lanes around Bukchon-ro 11-gil have been open to visitors only 10:00–17:00. Outside those hours, walking, photographing or lingering there counts as tourism and can bring a ₩100,000 fine (enforced since March 2025). Charter and tour coaches have been banned from the zone since January 2026. Allow 45–60 minutes, and keep voices down.

Crowds. The palaces are busiest at weekends and on public holidays. Saturday 3 October 2026, the Spectrum of the Seas call, is National Foundation Day, and Friday 9 October is Hangeul Day. Go early, or do Bukchon first once it opens at 10:00.

Chinatown, jajangmyeon and Sinpo Market

Incheon's Chinatown grew up in the open-port era from 1883, beside the Japanese settlement; the stairs where the two met still mark the line, with Jayu Park on the hill above. It is all free, outdoors and compact, and reached from the ship by taxi in 20–30 minutes or on the city shuttle to Gaehangjang.

The Jajangmyeon Museum occupies the old building of Gonghwachun, the restaurant (open from about 1905–1908 until 1983) widely credited as the first to serve jajangmyeon, the black-bean noodles now eaten all over Korea. It is open 09:00–18:00 (last entry 17:30), costs ₩1,000, and closes on Mondays, Seollal and Chuseok. Allow 45 minutes. The restaurant called Gonghwachun today is a newer business in a different building.

To eat the dish, Sinseung Banjeom is two streets away: 11:10–21:00 with a break from 15:00 to 16:30, open all year. From Chinatown, Sinpo International Market is about 800 m, a 12-minute walk: about 140 shops under cover, and an information desk with interpretation for cruise and ferry visitors. Its signature is dakgangjeong, chicken fried twice and tossed in a sticky sweet-spicy glaze, sold by the box to eat walking. The original counter, Sinpo Dakgangjeong, has been frying since 1985; it reportedly opens about 10:30–20:00 and closes on Mondays. There are several banks within 400 m of the market, which makes it the easiest place to get won.

Wolmido: the Sea Train and the Emigration History Museum

The Wolmi Sea Train is an elevated line that loops from Wolmi Bada station, a 5-minute walk from Incheon Station and Chinatown, round Wolmido. There is no fixed timetable; cars leave about every 15 minutes. Until the end of October it runs 10:00–19:00 Friday to Sunday and on holidays, and 10:00–18:00 Tuesday to Thursday; from November to March it runs 10:00–18:00. The last loop leaves Wolmi Bada at about 17:05–17:10 on 18:00 days. It is closed on Mondays and can be suspended in bad weather (the operator sends a text in the morning).

Wolmi Sea TrainWeekdayWeekend and holidays
Adult₩11,000₩14,000
65 and over₩8,000₩10,000

A ticket includes one free re-boarding the same day, so you can get off for Wolmi Park and ride back. Allow about an hour for the loop.

The Korean Emigration History Museum in Wolmi Park is free, open 09:00–18:00 (entry until 30 minutes before closing), with docent talks at 10:30, 13:30 and 15:00. It closes on Mondays (but not holiday Mondays) and on 1 January. Allow an hour.

The best things to do in Incheon on a port day

Our full list, with the time each takes from the ship, is on the Incheon top 10. In brief:

  1. Chinatown and the Jajangmyeon Museum: the open-port streets and the building where the noodles began. About three hours with the taxi both ways.
  2. Jajangmyeon where it began: a bowl at Sinseung Banjeom, two streets from the museum.
  3. Dakgangjeong at Sinpo Market: the glazed fried chicken from the 1985 counter, by the box.
  4. Wolmido and the Sea Train: the elevated loop round the old island; closed Mondays.
  5. Seoul: Gyeongbokgung and Bukchon: one Seoul area on your own, on a 12-hour call.
  6. Seoul with a written return promise: the same area, with the clock in the operator's hands, not yours.
  7. Songdo Central Park: the seawater canal and its water taxi, 15 minutes from the ship; the short-call answer.
  8. Korean Emigration History Museum: free, indoors, on the Sea Train loop.
  9. Bindaetteok at Gwangjang Market: mung-bean pancakes fried in front of you, if your Seoul day is the palace and the market.
  10. Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo: stores 10:30–20:00, on the city shuttle; the rainy-day and Monday fallback.

For timed plans by call length, see Incheon port-day plans; for guided options, Incheon with a guide.

One day in Incheon: model days

Seoul by taxi: palace, guard ceremony and Bukchon on a 12-hour call

Fits 12-hour calls, the commonest length, with an early arrival (Spectrum of the Seas, 07:00–19:00 on Saturday 3 October 2026), and longer ones: MSC Bellissima 07:00–21:00, Ritz-Carlton Luminara 08:00–22:00.

One Seoul area, done without hurrying the return. Times assume a 07:00 arrival and a 19:00 departure: all-aboard about 18:30, and our target back at the gangway 17:30. The taxi times are our estimates from map routing; nobody publishes a figure for this road in daytime traffic.

  1. 07:30Off the ship and down to the taxi rank at Gate 2 on the ground floor. Show the driver 경복궁 (Gyeongbokgung) or 광화문 (Gwanghwamun). Carry won: foreign-card acceptance in taxis is not officially documented.
  2. 07:45Taxi leaves: 48 km, about 70–110 minutes, roughly ₩55,000–75,000 including the 30% surcharge for leaving Incheon, plus tolls (our estimate from the official tariff).
  3. 09:15At Gwanghwamun, the palace's main gate. Tickets ₩3,000; free for foreign visitors 65 and over with a passport. October hours are 09:00–18:00.
  4. 09:35Guard training at the gate (15 minutes), then the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony at 10:00 (20 minutes). There is a second one at 14:00, too late for this plan.
  5. 10:20Gyeongbokgung: the Geunjeongjeon throne hall and the Gyeonghoeru pavilion on its pond. Give it about an hour and a half.
  6. 11:50Walk up to the Bukchon red zone around Bukchon-ro 11-gil, about 15–20 minutes (our estimate). Visitors are allowed 10:00–17:00; keep voices down and do not linger at doorways.
  7. 13:00Lunch near Anguk station. The Gwangjang Market food alley (bindaetteok, mung-bean pancakes) is the alternative if you skip Bukchon.
  8. 14:00Taxi back from Anguk or Gwanghwamun, 70–110 minutes. Treat 14:30 as the latest you leave Seoul: a worst-case run from then still reaches the ship at about 16:20.
  9. 15:30Back at the terminal, between about 15:10 and 15:50: 100–140 minutes ahead of our 17:30 target. That margin is the price of Seoul traffic you cannot predict.

Seoul by train: the cheaper way, same 12-hour call

Fits 07:00–19:00 or longer (Spectrum of the Seas, MSC Bellissima, Ritz-Carlton Luminara). It suits anyone happy to trade the 10:00 ceremony for roughly ₩70,000–100,000 saved per couple (our estimate).

A taxi to the nearest station, then two trains. It costs about a third of the taxi day and the journey time is predictable, but you arrive later and miss the first guard ceremony. Target back at the gangway 17:30, as above.

  1. 07:30Off the ship; taxi from Gate 2 to International Business District (IBD) station on Incheon Line 1, about 15 minutes and ₩8,000–9,000 (our estimate).
  2. 08:05At IBD, buy a T-money card or a single-journey ticket with won cash. Foreign cards cannot be tapped at the gates, and we could not confirm a card-accepting kiosk at this station.
  3. 08:10Incheon Line 1 to Gyeyang (about 57 minutes), then the AREX all-stop train to Seoul Station (about 30 minutes). About ₩2,400–2,700 each way on T-money.
  4. 09:55Seoul Station, then a taxi of about 10 minutes to Gwanghwamun.
  5. 10:15Gyeongbokgung (₩3,000, free for foreign visitors 65+). You have missed the 10:00 ceremony; catch the shorter gate-watch ceremony at 11:00 or come back for the 14:00 changing ceremony if you drop Bukchon.
  6. 12:00Bukchon lanes (open to visitors 10:00–17:00), then lunch near Anguk.
  7. 13:45Taxi to Seoul Station, then AREX at about 14:00, change at Gyeyang to Incheon Line 1, and reach IBD at about 15:45.
  8. 16:05Taxi from IBD back to the terminal: about 85 minutes ahead of the 17:30 target. Transport for the day, per person, is about ₩5,000 in rail fares plus a shared taxi each end.

Incheon's old port: Chinatown, the Sea Train and Sinpo on a 10-hour call

Fits 07:00–17:00 (Adora Mediterranea on Friday 30 October 2026) and any Tuesday-to-Sunday call of 8 hours or more. On a Monday the museums and the Sea Train are shut; see the note.

Incheon's own day, 20–35 minutes from the ship instead of two hours: the Chinatown streets, the museum in the building where jajangmyeon began, the sea train round Wolmido, a bowl of noodles and a box of fried chicken. Times assume 07:00–17:00, all-aboard 16:30, target back at the gangway 15:30.

  1. 07:30Off the ship. Take the free city shuttle to the Gaehangjang (Chinatown) area if it is running (times are not published), or a taxi: about 20–30 minutes and ₩12,000–15,000.
  2. 08:15The Chinatown gate, the stairs that marked the boundary between the Chinese and Japanese settlements, and Jayu Park above them. All free and outdoors.
  3. 09:00Jajangmyeon Museum opens (₩1,000), in the old Gonghwachun restaurant building. About 45 minutes.
  4. 10:00Walk about 5 minutes to Wolmi Bada station by Incheon Station and ride the Wolmi Sea Train (₩11,000 on weekdays, ₩8,000 for 65+). Trains run about every 15 minutes; get off at the stop for Wolmi Park.
  5. 10:30Korean Emigration History Museum, free, with a docent talk at 10:30. Then use your one free re-boarding back to Wolmi Bada.
  6. 11:50Sinseung Banjeom for jajangmyeon: it opens 11:10 and breaks 15:00–16:30.
  7. 12:50Walk about 12 minutes (800 m) to Sinpo International Market. Buy a box of dakgangjeong to take away; the original counter, Sinpo Dakgangjeong, has sold it since 1985.
  8. 13:45Taxi from Sinpo to the terminal, about 20–30 minutes.
  9. 14:15Back at the gangway, about 75 minutes ahead of the 15:30 target. Transport for the day: two taxis of ₩12,000–15,000 each plus the Sea Train.

How to think about your hours

Work backwards from the ship. All-aboard is usually 30 minutes before departure (check the daily programme), you want to be back at the gangway an hour before that, and the first half hour after arrival goes on getting off. So the time you can actually use is the call length minus about two hours. At Incheon every call uses the same terminal, so there is one table.

The calls from October to December 2026. The port authority lists 30 calls from 1 October: 15 in October, 9 in November and 6 in December. Of the 25 port calls, 16 are 12 hours long, 5 are 10 hours, 2 are 14 hours (MSC Bellissima on 2 October, Ritz-Carlton Luminara on 14 November) and 2 are overnights: Silver Moon, 12:00 on Saturday 24 October to 22:00 on Sunday 25 October, and Westerdam, 08:00 on Saturday 31 October to 16:00 on Sunday 1 November. Five more are turnarounds (Celebrity Millennium, Azamara Pursuit, Norwegian Jade twice and Adora Mediterranea). Visio, which sails for the Chinese market, accounts for 18 of the 30 calls, mostly 10:00–22:00. The Western-market port calls are Bellissima, Spectrum of the Seas, Silver Moon, Westerdam and Luminara.

On a 10:00–22:00 call the Seoul day shifts into the afternoon: in October the palace takes its last entry at 17:00, and Bukchon closes to visitors at 17:00, so arrive by about 13:00 and put the palace first. No dates are published yet for January to March 2027, though 129 calls are announced for the year.

Tours worth booking, by how many hours you have

Every pick opens our own page first — what the operator actually includes, who should skip it, and which upcoming Incheon calls it fits. Prices are the operator's "from" price as of 26 Sep 2026.

Tours are booked through Viator (a Tripadvisor company). If you book, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never decides what we recommend — which is why each tour page has a "think twice" note.

About the return to the ship. Three Seoul tours here put an on-time return in writing: 458105P24 and 458105P26, from the same operator, and 5518772P15. The Incheon day 5518772P16 says the return is "ensured", and the self-planned private car 5523524P4 mentions a timely return for shore excursions in its description. 103051P15, 368769P111 and the electric-car ride 295567P1 make no return promise at all. Read the small print as well: 458105P24 and 458105P26 may turn the day into an Incheon tour "in case of extreme traffic", and on Tuesdays they replace Gyeongbokgung. Whichever you book, tell the guide your all-aboard time when you meet, and if the listing has no return promise, ask for one by message before you pay. A written promise is what makes a Seoul day on a 10-hour call reasonable.

Money, cards and the practical stuff

Korea is a card country, but not for foreign cards on transport, and the terminal is far from a cash machine. Where you will need what:

PlacePay with
Free city shuttleFree
TaxisCards are widely used, but foreign-card acceptance is not officially documented; carry won
Incheon Line 1, AREX, Seoul subway, busesT-money card or single-journey ticket; no foreign-card tap in 2026
T-money top-upWon cash at station machines; foreign cards at Seoul's kiosks in 25 major stations
PalacesTicket office (₩3,000; free for 65+)
Sinpo and Gwangjang market stallsMixed; cash is safest
Wolmi Sea TrainOnline booking by card; ₩8,000–14,000

Getting won. The terminal has a currency-exchange desk on the ground floor. No cash machine is listed in the terminal, and map data shows none within 1 km of it, so change money on the ship or at the desk before you leave. In town, there are banks within 100–400 m of Sinpo Market (IBK, Hana, Standard Chartered, NH, Citibank, KB), and a 7-Eleven about 230 m from Songdo Central Park; convenience-store machines in Korea often take foreign cards. Budget for a couple on the old-port day: about ₩50,000–55,000 in taxis and tickets, plus food (our estimate). For Seoul by taxi, add ₩110,000–150,000 for the two rides.

Closing days against call dates. Incheon's sights close on Mondays, which catches Adora Mediterranea on 12 October, Visio on 19 October, 2 and 23 November and 28 December, and the Celebrity Millennium turnaround on 5 October. On those days go to Seoul instead: Gyeongbokgung is open on Mondays. Gyeongbokgung closes on Tuesdays, which catches Visio on 13 October and 8 December; on a Tuesday, Changdeokgung is the Seoul palace. Whether Monday 5 October is a substitute holiday for 3 October, which would shift the Monday closures, is not confirmed in any official calendar we could retrieve.

Entry. Nationals of the countries currently exempt from K-ETA (the USA among them; check the official list for yours) need no K-ETA through 31 December 2026. Arrivals without one must complete the e-Arrival Card, required since 1 January 2026; your cruise line will say how.

Turnaround passengers. Incheon Airport Terminal 1 is 40–50 minutes by taxi, about ₩30,000 plus the ₩2,000 bridge toll (our estimate).

Names on maps. On 1 July 2026 Incheon reorganised its districts: Chinatown, Wolmido, Sinpo Market and Incheon Station are now in Jemulpo-gu, not Jung-gu, which older pages still use.

When to go: seasons and crowds

  • Autumn (October–November) is the best of it: October averages 19.9 °C highs and 51 mm of rain, and with June it is the busiest cruise month, 15 calls each in 2026. November cools to 12 °C highs; the leaves turn in early November.
  • Winter (December–February) is cold, with highs of 2–5 °C and nights below freezing, and a wind off the sea at the terminal. Visio's December calls are the only ones scheduled.
  • Spring (March–May) brings blossom in April and the best weather in May (21.6 °C highs), but also the yellow-dust season, which peaks in April.
  • Summer. The monsoon runs from about 25 June to late July; July is the wettest month (338 mm) and August the hottest (29.2 °C) and the peak typhoon month. About three typhoons affect Korea in a year.
  • Rain plan: the Jajangmyeon and Emigration History museums (both closed Mondays), Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo, the covered parts of Sinpo Market, and in Seoul the covered Gwangjang Market. The Sea Train may stop in bad weather.
  • Holidays on call dates: Saturday 3 October (National Foundation Day, Spectrum of the Seas) and Friday 9 October (Hangeul Day, Visio). Palaces and Chinatown are at their busiest on those days and at weekends.

Mistakes we see passengers make

  1. Believing 'Seoul' on the itinerary means Seoul. The terminal is in Songdo, 48 km from central Seoul by road and 7 km from the nearest subway. There is no walking into town, and a Seoul day costs about four hours of travel.
  2. Trying to do Seoul's whole list. On a 12-hour call you have about 5 hours on the ground by taxi and 4 by train. That is one area, such as Gyeongbokgung with Bukchon, or the palace with Gwangjang Market, not the palace, the tower, Myeongdong and the markets.
  3. Leaving Seoul late. The return is the risk: 70–110 minutes by taxi in traffic nobody can forecast. On a 07:00–19:00 call, leave Seoul by 14:30 at the latest; many older plans say 15:30, which leaves ten minutes of margin in the worst case.
  4. Counting on the free shuttle. It is a city service with no published timetable, it does not go to Seoul, and on 20 March 2025 it was cancelled at short notice for a 2,000-passenger ship, and passengers left by taxi took more than two hours to get away. Keep taxi money in won.
  5. Tapping a foreign credit card at the subway gate. It does not work anywhere in Seoul or Incheon in 2026 (foreign cards are due on Seoul city buses from 2027). Buy a T-money card with cash, or a single-journey ticket.
  6. Monday in Incheon, Tuesday in Seoul. The Jajangmyeon Museum, the Sea Train, the Emigration History Museum, Changdeokgung and the DMZ close on Mondays; Gyeongbokgung closes on Tuesdays. If the closing day is a public holiday, the palaces, the Sea Train and the Emigration History Museum open as normal.
  7. Walking Bukchon after 17:00. Visitors are banned from the core lanes from 17:00 to 10:00, including for photographs, and fines of ₩100,000 have been enforced since March 2025.
  8. Leaving the passport on the ship. You need it for free palace entry at 65+, and on a DMZ tour you cannot enter without the physical passport.

Quick answers

Incheon cruise port questions

Where do cruise ships dock in Incheon?

At the Incheon Port Cruise Terminal, 438 Gukjehangman-daero, Yeonsu-gu, at the southern tip of Songdo. Every call on the port authority's schedule for October–December 2026 is a single ship there. It is not the International Passenger Terminal, which handles China ferries. Nothing is walkable from the terminal: the nearest subway station, International Business District on Incheon Line 1, is 7 km away, about 15 minutes by taxi.

How far is the Incheon cruise terminal from Seoul?

About 48 km by road to Seoul Station or Gyeongbokgung. A taxi takes about 70–110 minutes in daytime traffic and costs about ₩50,000–75,000 each way with the 30% out-of-city surcharge and tolls (our estimates). Taxi plus Incheon Line 1 and the AREX train takes about 2 hours to Seoul Station and about ₩2,400–2,700 in fares. A Seoul round trip costs 2.5–4.5 hours of travel. Passengers report Seoul taxis declining the run back to the terminal; the train from Seoul Station is the fallback.

Can I visit Seoul on a cruise stop in Incheon?

Yes, on a call of about 12 hours, if you choose one area. By taxi you get about 5 hours on the ground, by train about 4: enough for Gyeongbokgung, the guard ceremony and Bukchon. On 10 hours it is possible by taxi with about 3.5 hours in Seoul, and a tour that promises the return in writing is the safer choice. On 8 hours or less, do Incheon instead.

How do I get from the Incheon cruise port to Seoul by train?

About 2 hours to Seoul Station and ₩2,400–2,700 each way on T-money (our estimates). There is no station at the terminal: take a taxi from the Gate 2 rank to International Business District station, about 15 minutes and ₩8,000–9,000, then Incheon Line 1 to Gyeyang (about 57 minutes) and the AREX all-stop train to Seoul Station (about 30 minutes). Gyeongbokgung is about 10 minutes further by taxi. Buy a T-money card with won cash: foreign cards cannot be tapped at the gates.

Is there a free shuttle from the Incheon cruise terminal?

On cruise days Incheon City and the Incheon Tourism Organization run free shuttles to Sinpo International Market, the Chinatown and Wolmido area, Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo and traditional markets. There is no published timetable, none goes to Seoul, and one was cancelled at short notice on 20 March 2025. Check at the information desk as you land, and keep won for a taxi. Some cruise lines run their own paid shuttles; check your daily programme.

How do I get from the Incheon cruise port to Chinatown?

By taxi, about 20–30 minutes and ₩12,000–15,000 (our estimate), or by the free city shuttle to the Gaehangjang (Chinatown) area when it runs. Sinpo Market is about the same distance and 800 m from Chinatown on foot, and Wolmido is 25–35 minutes from the ship. The Wolmi Sea Train's Wolmi Bada station is a 5-minute walk from Chinatown's gate at Incheon Station.

How much is a taxi from the Incheon cruise terminal?

The Incheon tariff is ₩4,800 for the first 1.6 km, then ₩100 per 135 m (or per 33 seconds in slow traffic). From the rank at Gate 2 that is about ₩8,000–9,000 to IBD station, ₩12,000–15,000 to Chinatown and roughly ₩30,000 plus a ₩2,000 bridge toll to Incheon Airport. To Seoul a 30% out-of-city surcharge applies: about ₩50,000–75,000. These are our estimates from the tariff; traffic adds to them. Carry won.

Can I tap my credit card on the Seoul subway?

No. In 2026 foreign contactless cards cannot be used at subway gates or on buses in Seoul or Incheon; a deal signed in September 2026 brings them to Seoul city buses from 2027. Buy a T-money card at a station machine with won cash (Seoul has kiosks that accept foreign cards at 25 major stations, but not necessarily at IBD) and top it up.

Do I need Korean won, and is there an ATM at the Incheon cruise terminal?

Yes, you need won, and no cash machine is listed in the terminal or mapped within 1 km of it. The terminal has a currency-exchange desk on the ground floor; change money there or on the ship. You need won for T-money cards (station machines take cash), market stalls, which are safest in cash, and taxis, where foreign-card acceptance is not officially documented. In town, several banks stand within 400 m of Sinpo Market.

Is Gyeongbokgung free for seniors?

Yes. Foreign visitors aged 65 and over, and 18 and under, enter Gyeongbokgung and the other royal palaces free with proof of age, so bring your passport. Everyone else pays ₩3,000. The Changdeokgung Secret Garden still charges ₩5,000 at any age. Gyeongbokgung is closed on Tuesdays and Changdeokgung on Mondays.

What time is the changing of the guard at Gyeongbokgung?

The Royal Guard Changing Ceremony at Gwanghwamun gate is at 10:00 and 14:00 and lasts about 20 minutes. There is a 10-minute gate-watch ceremony at 11:00 and 13:00, and guard training at 09:35 and 13:35. By taxi from a 07:00 arrival you can reach the 10:00 ceremony; by train, plan on 11:00 or 14:00. It is widely reported not to be held on Tuesdays, when the palace is closed.

Can I visit Bukchon Hanok Village on a cruise day from Incheon?

Yes, between 10:00 and 17:00 only. Since November 2024 the core lanes around Bukchon-ro 11-gil have been open to visitors only in those hours, and walking or photographing there outside them can bring a ₩100,000 fine, enforced since March 2025. Tour coaches have been banned from the zone since January 2026. Bukchon is a 15–20-minute walk from Gyeongbokgung and 70–110 minutes by taxi from the ship; allow 45–60 minutes and pair it with the palace on a 12-hour call.

Can I visit the DMZ from the Incheon cruise port?

Only on a tour with a fixed return, and realistically only on an overnight call. Imjingak is about 75 km, 90–120 minutes each way by road; the ticket window is open only 09:00–14:30, it is closed on Mondays and on weekday public holidays, and you need your physical passport. None of the tours in our catalogue goes there, so this means your ship's own excursion.

Do I need a K-ETA for a cruise stop in Korea?

Nationals of the countries currently exempt from K-ETA, the USA among them, do not need one through 31 December 2026; check the official K-ETA list for your passport. Since 1 January 2026 arrivals without a K-ETA must complete the e-Arrival Card; follow your cruise line's instructions for it.

Should I book a shore excursion to Seoul or go on my own from Incheon?

On a 10-hour call, book a tour that promises the return in writing; on 12 hours either works if you pick one area and leave Seoul by 14:30. The best-value written promise in our catalogue is the shared Seoul day 458105P24: from US$86 each, admissions included, meeting inside the terminal, 59 reviews. Its private version, 458105P26, is from US$452 for up to six. On your own, taxis cost about ₩110,000–150,000 per car for the round trip, the train about ₩5,000 each (our estimates). For Incheon itself you hardly need a tour.

Which cruise ships call at Incheon in late 2026?

30 calls from 1 October 2026: 15 in October, 9 in November and 6 in December, all expected at the cruise terminal. Visio, sailing for the Chinese market, makes 18 of them. The Western-market port calls are MSC Bellissima (2 October), Spectrum of the Seas (3 October), Silver Moon (overnight 24–25 October), Westerdam (overnight 31 October–1 November) and Ritz-Carlton Luminara (14 November); Celebrity Millennium, Azamara Pursuit and Norwegian Jade turn around here. The port authority lists 127 calls for 2026, and 129 are announced for 2027.

What is there to do in Incheon itself on a cruise day?

Five things, all 15–35 minutes by taxi from the ship: Korea's first Chinatown and the ₩1,000 Jajangmyeon Museum; jajangmyeon at Sinseung Banjeom; dakgangjeong fried chicken at Sinpo International Market, 800 m from Chinatown; the Wolmi Sea Train round Wolmido (₩11,000 on weekdays, ₩8,000 for 65+) with the free Korean Emigration History Museum; and Songdo Central Park's seawater canal, 15 minutes away. The museums and the Sea Train close on Mondays. Together they make a full day with about an hour of travel.

What can I do on a short cruise call in Incheon (4–6 hours)?

On 4 hours you have about 2 usable: take a taxi 15 minutes to Songdo Central Park and its seawater canal, or to Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo (stores 10:30–20:00), and come back. Chinatown, 20–30 minutes away, is too far for comfort. On 6 hours, about 4 usable, do Chinatown, the Jajangmyeon Museum (closed Mondays) and a box of dakgangjeong from Sinpo Market. Seoul fits neither: the round trip alone is 2.5–4.5 hours.

Is the Incheon cruise terminal wheelchair accessible?

The terminal lends wheelchairs on both floors and has accessible toilets, escalators, an information desk, a currency-exchange desk and a tax-refund counter, according to the port authority's floor guide. Beyond the door nothing is walkable, so every trip starts with a taxi, the city shuttle or a tour. For Seoul, 103051P15 is the only day in our catalogue whose listing says the transport is wheelchair accessible; it meets in the arrival hall but makes no written return promise, so ask for one before you book.

How do I get from the Incheon cruise terminal to Incheon Airport?

By taxi from the Gate 2 rank: 40–50 minutes and about ₩30,000 plus the ₩2,000 Incheon Bridge toll (our estimate from the official tariff). The airport is about 34 km by road, across the Incheon Bridge, and no train runs from the terminal. Five calls from October to December 2026 are turnarounds (Celebrity Millennium, Azamara Pursuit, Norwegian Jade twice and Adora Mediterranea); if your line sells an airport transfer, that is the other option.

What food should I try in Incheon on a cruise stop?

Two dishes Incheon is known for, both 20–30 minutes from the ship. Jajangmyeon, black-bean noodles first served at Gonghwachun in Chinatown (now the ₩1,000 Jajangmyeon Museum): eat a bowl at Sinseung Banjeom, open 11:10–21:00 with a 15:00–16:30 break. And dakgangjeong, chicken fried twice in a sticky sweet-spicy glaze, sold by the box at Sinpo Dakgangjeong in Sinpo International Market since 1985; it reportedly closes on Mondays. On a Seoul day, try bindaetteok at Gwangjang Market.

What is the weather like in Incheon for a cruise, and when is the best time?

October is the best month: highs average 19.9 °C (68 °F) with 51 mm of rain, and with June it is the busiest cruise month, 15 calls each in 2026. November cools to 12 °C highs, with autumn leaves in early November; December to February brings highs of 2–5 °C and a cold sea wind at the terminal. May (21.6 °C) is the best of spring, but March to May is yellow-dust season. July is the wettest month (338 mm), August the hottest and the peak for typhoons.
