Jeju Cruise Port: The Complete Guide for 2026–27

Updated 1 October 2026 · 21 official and operator sources · Researched from official timetables, operators and the port authority · Takumi Yamada

Jeju has two cruise terminals on opposite coasts, 52 km apart, and the one you get decides the day. Most Western ships use Jeju Port in Jeju City, about an hour by taxi from Seongsan Ilchulbong, the crater on the island's eastern tip. On the typical 8-hour call you can climb it and add the Manjanggul lava tube, and still be back with an hour to spare. Big ships use Gangjeong on the south coast, where the basalt cliffs, two waterfalls and the Seogwipo market fit a morning by taxi. The one decision is whether to make Seongsan a taxi day, at roughly ₩90,000 a car, or to stay local. No tour in our catalogue fits an 8-hour call as listed.

Your call, your day

What fits the time your ship gives you?

Pick your ship from the official Jeju schedule — or just the hours you have — and this page picks the plan and the tours that fit, with the hour before all-aboard already set aside.

No future calls are on the published schedule yet — use "Just my hours".

Why people sail here

The three reasons to get off the ship in Jeju

Seongsan Ilchulbong, the crater on the sea

A tuff cone that rose straight out of the sea at the island's eastern tip, now a UNESCO World Heritage site and the picture on every Jeju poster. The stepped path to the crater rim takes 30–40 minutes up, and the cove below is where the haenyeo, Jeju's women divers, come ashore.

From the ship From Jeju Port, taxi about 61 minutes each way, from about ₩40,700 (our estimate); allow four hours door to door. From Gangjeong, about 84 minutes and ₩53,500 each way; allow five. Entry ₩5,000; closed the first Monday of every month.

The south coast: Jusangjeolli and the falls

Hexagonal basalt columns with the sea breaking against them, then Jeongbang Falls dropping 23 metres onto the shore and Cheonjiyeon Falls at the end of a flat gorge path. All three are within 7–12 km of the Gangjeong terminal, and each costs ₩2,000.

From the ship From Gangjeong, taxi about 15 minutes and ₩8,300 to the cliffs, 20 minutes and ₩11,800 to Jeongbang (our estimates). From Jeju Port it is 60–70 minutes each way. Treat it as a Gangjeong day only.

Dongmun Market and Jeju's food

Jeju City's covered market, open every day, with a food alley between gates 8 and 10 plus a night market from 18:00 or 19:00. Black Pork Street and the gogi-guksu noodle houses are a short walk away. It is the rain plan and the easy plan.

From the ship From Jeju Port, 7 minutes on the City Tour bus (₩5,000, card only, not Mondays), or a taxi of about 5 minutes and ₩4,800. On foot, 2.8 km and about 37 minutes.

Why Jeju is worth getting off the ship for

Jeju is a volcanic island off Korea's southern tip, and its best sights are what the volcano left behind. Seongsan Ilchulbong is a crater that rose out of the sea. Manjanggul is a lava tube you can walk into. At Jusangjeolli the lava cooled into hexagonal columns. Waterfalls drop off the south coast, and Hallasan stands in the middle of it all. Seongsan and Manjanggul are both part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Add the haenyeo, the island's women divers, and a food culture built on black pork, noodles and fish. There is more here than most passengers expect of a stop between Japan and the Korean mainland.

The difficulty is distance. Cruise ships use two terminals on opposite coasts, 52 km apart, and Seongsan is an hour or more from either. So start with two questions: which terminal, and how many hours? The answers below draw on the Province's berth-allocation list, the City Tour bus timetable, the official opening pages and the taxi tariff, checked on 30 September 2026. Nobody from this site has been to Jeju; taxi times and fares are our estimates from map routing and the tariff.

What Jeju is not: a gateway to mainland Korea — Seoul and Busan are flights away — or a place to climb Hallasan to the summit in a port day.

First: which berth are you at?

Jeju's two cruise terminals face different seas, and each gives you a different island for the day.

The rule is simple: 100,000 GT and over goes to Gangjeong, and smaller ships go to Jeju Port. A smaller ship can be moved to Gangjeong if the line asks or agrees, so there are exceptions both ways. On the Province's list, Carnival Luminosa (92,720 GT) is at Gangjeong on 14 October 2026, and Visio (102,784 GT) was given Jeju Port on two dates in 2026.

The list for October 2026 to March 2027 has 182 calls: 113 at Gangjeong (62%) and 69 at Jeju Port (38%). The split is misleading for most readers of this page. Gangjeong is mostly Chinese-market ships: in early 2025, 86% of its passengers were from China. Jeju Port gets nearly every Western ship: Norwegian Jade, Westerdam, Celebrity Millennium, Silver Moon, Silver Muse, Nautica, Regatta, Vasco da Gama, AIDAstella and the Mitsui ships. Remember that the list is an allocation plan, not a record of confirmed calls. It showed 296 calls for 2026 when the Province had announced 348. Your ship's daily programme is the final word.

Where your ship ties up in relation to each terminal building is not published, so allow time for the walk off. Local news reports automated immigration kiosks that have cut clearance for 5,000 passengers from about 150 minutes to about 60.

Getting from Jeju Port into Jeju City

The Jeju City Tour bus, run by the Jeju Tourism Association, leaves from the terminal itself, and it is the one piece of public transport built for you. Two loops call here.

Three things to know about the City Tour bus. It takes no cash: pay on board with a credit card or a transit card. It does not run on Mondays, and it can be suspended in typhoons, heavy rain or snow (call 064-741-8784). It is also a one-way loop, so after Dongmun the coastal bus carries on around the island's north coast and takes two hours to come back. Ride it out and take a taxi back, or walk.

A free shuttle towards Dongmun, run by downtown merchants, started in April 2025, but no 2026 route or timetable is published. If it is waiting at the terminal, take it as a bonus.

Taxi fares here and throughout are floors: distance only, on the official Jeju tariff of ₩4,300 for the first 2 km and ₩100 per 126 m after that. Slow traffic adds a time charge. Local press has reported drivers refusing short fares at the terminal, so carry your destination written in Korean (동문시장 is Dongmun Market).

Getting from Gangjeong to Seogwipo and the south coast

Gangjeong sits alone on the coast, 10 km west of Seogwipo, and nothing but lunch is within walking distance. The Gangjeong Haenyeo-ui-jip next door is a restaurant run by the local women divers, famous for sea-urchin noodles and closed on Mondays. For everything else, take a taxi.

Bus 680 started in May 2025 and runs a circuit from the cruise terminal through Seogwipo: the Olle Market car park, the Jungang and Dongmun rotaries, and back. The official route map shows it calling at Maeil Olle Market gate 7, but the Province publishes no timetable for it. Use it into town if one is waiting, and do not rely on it to get back. The fare is ₩1,150 by card, and no Jeju bus takes cash.

Taxis wait at the terminal. For anywhere out of town, such as O'sulloc or Seongsan, agree the return with your driver before you go: nobody publishes how easy it is to find one back.

Jeju to Seongsan Ilchulbong: what is actually possible

The crater of Seongsan Ilchulbong seen from the rim

Seongsan is the reason most people want to come ashore, and it is further than it looks on the ship's map. The honest options:

  • Taxi from Jeju Port. It is 43 km, about 61 minutes each way by our estimate, and about ₩40,700 on the meter each way. With 90 minutes on site, allow four hours door to door. That fits an 8-hour call with about two hours to spare. Or pair it with Manjanggul, which is on the way back.
  • Taxi from Gangjeong. It is 57 km along the south coast, about 84 minutes and ₩53,500 each way. Allow 4½–5 hours. That fits an 8-hour call with about an hour to spare, but leaves time for nothing else.
  • Express bus 111 runs from Jeju Airport and the bus terminal, not the cruise terminal: about 70 minutes from the airport, frequency not published. Possible on a long call; a taxi is the practical choice.
  • A tour is a nine-hour day from a Jeju City hotel; see the tours section for the few calls that can take one.

On the peak itself: it opens at 06:00 from November to February, 05:00 in March, April, September and October, and 04:30 from May to August. Ticket sales end an hour before closing, at 17:00 in winter and 18:00 in spring and autumn. Adults aged 25–64 pay ₩5,000; the rate for 65 and over is not clear from the official page, so carry the adult fee. The climb to the crater rim is 30–40 minutes up a stepped, exposed path. It is hard going in rain and not suitable for anyone who struggles with steps, but the lower lawn and Umutgae cove need no climb.

Seongsan is closed on the first Monday of every month. From October 2026 to March 2027, that catches Westerdam at Jeju Port on 2 November and Vasco da Gama on 1 March 2027, which is also a national holiday. The official page does not say whether the closure moves when the first Monday is a holiday.

The haenyeo show at the cove below is free with your Seongsan ticket, afternoon only and weather-dependent; no official timetable is published (secondary sources say 13:30 and 15:00, or 14:00; call 064-783-0959). If the divers matter more than Manjanggul, do Seongsan second.

Manjanggul lava tube: the pairing that makes the Seongsan day

Manjanggul reopened on 30 May 2026 after being closed from December 2023 for new walkways and LED lighting. The tube is about 7.4 km long, but only 1 km is open, entered through entrance 2 and ending at a 7.6-metre lava column. That is about an hour's walk, there and back, on the flat.

It opens from 09:00 to 18:00, with last entry at 17:00, and is closed on the first Wednesday of every month. Adults aged 25–65 pay ₩4,000. Free guide-interpreters work from 09:00 to 16:00 if you ask at the entrance. It is 11–15 °C underground all year, so take a warm layer and flat shoes, not heels. It is also the best rain plan on the island.

From Jeju Port it is about 41 minutes by taxi; from Seongsan, about 35. On first-Wednesday closures, the indoor Jeju Haenyeo Museum on the same coast is the substitute: 09:00–18:00, ₩1,100 for non-resident adults, free at 65, closed Mondays.

The south coast from Gangjeong: cliffs, two falls and a market

The Jungmun Daepo columnar-joint cliffs on the south coast

This is the Gangjeong day, and it is an easy one: three natural sights, each under an hour, a market for lunch and short taxi hops between them. All three sights are run by Seogwipo City, cost ₩2,000 for adults and are listed free for 65 and over with ID. The city's page does not say whether a foreign passport counts, so have the ₩2,000 ready.

  • Jusangjeolli (Natural Monument 443) is a boardwalk and viewing decks above the basalt columns. It is open from 09:00 to about 17:50 (the closing time varies with sunset), with last entry at 17:30, and closes in bad weather. It is 15 minutes from the ship.
  • Jeongbang Falls drops 23 metres onto the shore. It is often called Korea's only waterfall that falls straight into the sea. It has the same hours and weather closures as Jusangjeolli, and the path down takes about five minutes of stairs.
  • Cheonjiyeon Falls is a 22-metre fall at the end of a flat gorge path, and it is open from 09:00 to 22:00, with last entry at 21:20. It is the one sight on the south coast that works after dark, and the one for anyone who wants to avoid stairs.
  • Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market is partly covered and open every day, from 07:00 to 20:00 in winter and 21:00 in summer; Nammaene Wanggalchi inside does cutlassfish. The Olle night market nearby runs every evening.

Jeongbang to the market is 1.4 km on foot, about 19 minutes, and the market to Cheonjiyeon is 1.1 km, about 15 minutes. Two further options: O'sulloc Tea Museum among the green-tea terraces is 35 minutes west (open 09:00–18:00, to 19:00 in summer), and the Oedolgae sea stack is free and always open.

The best things to do in Jeju on a port day

Our full list, with the time each takes from the berth, is on the Jeju top 10. In brief:

  1. Seongsan Ilchulbong — the crater rim at the eastern tip. About four hours from Jeju Port, five from Gangjeong.
  2. Dongmun Market — Jeju City's covered market, 7 minutes from the Jeju Port terminal on the City Tour bus.
  3. Manjanggul lava tube — 1 km of lava tube, reopened in May 2026; about three hours from Jeju Port.
  4. Jusangjeolli cliffs — hexagonal lava columns, 15 minutes from Gangjeong.
  5. Jeongbang Falls and Seogwipo — the fall onto the shore, then the Olle Market.
  6. Black pork in Jeju City — grilled at the table on Black Pork Street, 2 km from Jeju Port.
  7. O'sulloc tea fields — green-tea terraces and the museum café, 35 minutes from Gangjeong.
  8. Sea-urchin noodles at the haenyeo house — lunch next to the Gangjeong terminal; closed on Mondays.
  9. East Jeju with the haenyeo show, guided — nine hours from a Jeju City hotel at 08:00–08:30. It says nothing about cruise ships, so it suits only the longest Jeju Port calls.
  10. Cheonjiyeon Falls after dark — open until 22:00, and made for afternoon arrivals at Gangjeong.

Ready-made itineraries are on Jeju port-day plans, and the guided options are compared on Jeju with a guide.

One day in Jeju: model days

Seongsan and the lava tube: an 8-hour morning call at Jeju Port

Fits 07:00–15:00 at Jeju Port (Norwegian Jade on 20 November 2026 and 13 and 31 March 2027, Regatta on 30 March 2027) or anything longer. Shift every time by your arrival.

Jeju's signature sight done properly, with the island's best rain-proof sight on the way back. It works because Seongsan opens early and Manjanggul is on the road home. The plan assumes a 07:00 arrival and 15:00 departure: all-aboard around 14:30, so aim to be back at the gangway by 13:30. You will need one taxi for the day, so agree a price and the waiting time with the driver before you leave the rank.

  1. 07:30Off the ship. Taxi from the rank at Jeju Port International Passenger Terminal, heading east. Show the driver 성산일출봉 in Korean.
  2. 08:30Seongsan Ilchulbong after about 61 minutes (our estimate, about ₩40,700 on the meter). It opens at 06:00 from November to February and 05:00 in March, April, September and October. Adults pay ₩5,000.
  3. 08:35Climb to the crater rim, 30–40 minutes of steps each way, and take in the view. Before or after, walk down to the lawn and Umutgae cove, which needs no climb.
  4. 10:00Taxi to Manjanggul, 23.4 km and about 35 minutes (about ₩21,800). The lava tube opens at 09:00.
  5. 10:35Manjanggul lava tube, ₩4,000. The open section is 1 km long, on new decks with LED lighting, and ends at a 7.6-metre lava column. It is 11–15 °C inside, so bring a jacket and wear flat shoes.
  6. 11:45Taxi back to Jeju Port, 28.3 km and about 40 minutes (about ₩26,500).
  7. 12:30Back at the gangway, an hour ahead of the 13:30 target. The day's taxi fares on the meter come to about ₩89,000 a car, plus any waiting charge you agreed.

The south coast: an 8-hour morning call at Gangjeong

Fits 08:00–16:00 at Gangjeong, the commonest morning pattern there (31 of 113 Gangjeong calls from October to March), and the longer morning calls of MSC Bellissima, Spectrum of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas and Carnival Luminosa (arriving 06:00–08:00, leaving 17:00–19:00).

Everything worth seeing on the south coast lies within 12 km of the ship, so this is a relaxed day with short taxi hops and one walk through the town. The plan assumes a 08:00–16:00 call: all-aboard around 15:30, so aim to be back at the gangway by 14:30. Take the taxis from the terminal rank.

  1. 08:30Off the ship. Taxi to Jusangjeolli, about 15 minutes and ₩8,300 (our estimate). The gate opens at 09:00.
  2. 09:00Jusangjeolli cliffs: an outdoor boardwalk above the lava columns. Adults ₩2,000, and the city lists it free for 65 and over with ID. The official visit time is under an hour.
  3. 09:45Taxi to Jeongbang Falls, 16 km and about 25 minutes (about ₩15,600).
  4. 10:10Jeongbang Falls, ₩2,000: about five minutes of stairs down to the shore, where the fall drops 23 metres. The path is not step-free.
  5. 10:50Walk 1.4 km (about 19 minutes) to Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market, or take a short taxi.
  6. 11:10Market and lunch: cutlassfish at Nammaene Wanggalchi inside the market (09:00–20:00 daily) or abalone stew at Sambo Sikdang nearby (closed the second and fourth Wednesdays).
  7. 12:30Walk 1.1 km (about 15 minutes) to Cheonjiyeon Falls. The 22-metre fall is at the end of a flat gorge path, ₩2,000.
  8. 13:35Taxi from the Cheonjiyeon car park back to the terminal, about 18 minutes and ₩9,800.
  9. 13:55Back at the gangway, about 35 minutes ahead of the 14:30 target. Taxi fares come to about ₩34,000 a car, shared by up to four, and entry to the three sights to ₩6,000 each.

Market, black pork and the night market: an afternoon call at Jeju Port

Fits 14:00–22:00 at Jeju Port, the commonest Jeju Port pattern (27 of 69 calls from October to March). See the note for a morning call.

A day for anyone who would rather eat well than sit in a taxi, and for the many afternoon arrivals, which can reach Seongsan only in a rush. Everything is within 3 km of the ship. The plan assumes a 14:00–22:00 call: all-aboard around 21:30, so aim to be back at the gangway by 20:30.

  1. 14:30Off the ship. Tourist information desks in the terminal are staffed on cruise days, and the most common question at them is how to get to Dongmun Market.
  2. 14:40City Tour bus, downtown loop, from the terminal, reaching Dongmun at 14:46. Or take the coastal loop at 15:00, reaching Dongmun at 15:07. A ride is ₩5,000, paid by card or transit card only, and the bus does not run on Mondays.
  3. 14:50Dongmun Market, open every day: walk the stalls, then the food alley between gates 8 and 10. Most of it is covered, which makes it the rain plan too.
  4. 16:15Taxi to Yongduam, the dragon-head rock on the shore, about 5 minutes. It is free and always open.
  5. 17:05Taxi to Black Pork Street, about 6 minutes, for grilled black pork at Dombedon (open every day).
  6. 18:45Walk 1.1 km (about 14 minutes) back to Dongmun.
  7. 19:00Dongmun night market near gate 8, which opens at 18:00 from November to April and 19:00 from May to October. Stalls close when the food runs out.
  8. 19:55Taxi to the terminal, about 5 minutes and ₩4,800.
  9. 20:05Back at the gangway, about 25 minutes ahead of the 20:30 target.

How to think about your hours

Work backwards from the ship. All-aboard is usually 30 minutes before departure (check the daily programme), and you want to be back at the gangway an hour before that. The first half hour after arrival goes on clearance and getting off. So the time you can actually use is the call length minus about two hours.

And 89 of the 182 arrive at noon or later, which is why this guide keeps pointing you to things open in the evening.

Tours worth booking, by how many hours you have

Every pick opens our own page first — what the operator actually includes, who should skip it, and which upcoming Jeju calls it fits. Prices are the operator's "from" price as of 26 Sep 2026.

10h+A private day you can shape around the ship

The only tour here that is plausible on a Jeju Port call of 10–12 hours, because its pickup and itinerary can be customised. Before you pay, get the operator to confirm in writing a pickup at the Jeju Port terminal and your time back. It is non-refundable, including if the ship misses Jeju.

Tours are booked through Viator (a Tripadvisor company). If you book, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never decides what we recommend — which is why each tour page has a "think twice" note.

About the return to the ship. None of the seven Jeju tours in our catalogue mentions cruise passengers, the port or an on-time return. All are built for hotel guests: an 08:00–09:00 pickup in Jeju City and 8–9 hours out. A nine-hour tour from 08:30 needs a departure at 19:00 or later and a terminal pickup the operator has agreed in writing; none can reach Gangjeong in time, and none is marked wheelchair-accessible. Tell the guide your all-aboard time and agree to be back an hour before it. On the typical 8-hour call, a taxi you control is safer.

Money, cards and the practical stuff

Jeju Port's terminal has a currency-exchange counter; no exchange desk is confirmed at Gangjeong, and nobody publishes the nearest foreign-card cash machine to either berth. Bring won from home or an earlier Korean port. As a rough estimate, a couple needs about ₩100,000 for the Seongsan taxi day plus ₩20,000 for entry and snacks, or about ₩40,000 plus lunch for the south coast. Wi-Fi and mobile data are common complaints at both terminals: download an offline map and carry destinations written in Korean.

Entry. Jeju is Korea, not Japan. Nationals of K-ETA-exempt countries, including the US, need no K-ETA until 31 December 2026, and anyone 17 or under or 65 and over is always exempt; exempt travellers file the free e-Arrival Card. Cruise passengers usually land on a tourist landing permit arranged by the line, so follow your line's instructions. No extension for 2027 had been announced by 30 September 2026.

Closed days to check against your date:

  • Mondays: the City Tour bus does not run; the Gangjeong haenyeo house is shut (Gangjeong calls on 5 October, 2 November and 7 December 2026, among others); the Haenyeo Museum and Jeju Stone Park are shut.
  • First Monday: Seongsan (Westerdam 2 November 2026; Vasco da Gama 1 March 2027).
  • First Wednesday: Manjanggul (Celebrity Millennium 7 October; Silver Muse 4 November; Nautica 3 March 2027).
  • Second and fourth Wednesdays: Sambo Sikdang in Seogwipo (Carnival Luminosa's Gangjeong call on 14 October).
  • Tuesdays: Donsadon, the black-pork house in Nohyeong. Dombedon on Black Pork Street opens every day.
  • Seollal, 6–8 February 2027: the Haenyeo Museum and Stone Park close, and many restaurants may too. There are calls on 6 and 7 February.

For lunch in Jeju City, Samdae Guksu Hoegwan (41 Samseong-ro, every day) serves gogi-guksu, pork-broth noodles with sliced pork.

When to go: seasons and crowds

  • Autumn (October–November) is the best time. October has the fewest rainy days, 6.7 in Jeju City and 5.8 in Seogwipo, and average highs of 21.6 °C in the north and 23.5 °C in the south. November drops to 16–18 °C. The pink muhly grass at Hueree park is an autumn sight.
  • Winter (December–February) averages highs of 9–13 °C, milder on the south coast. Seongsan opens at 06:00 and sells its last tickets at 17:00. There are cruise calls all winter: 16 in December, 28 in January and 30 in February.
  • Spring (March–April). March is the busiest month on the list, with 49 calls in March 2027 and 21 of them at Jeju Port. Highs are 13–19 °C. From April the south coast gets much wetter than the north.
  • Summer is hot and wet: August averages 30 °C, with 272 mm of rain in Jeju City and 316 mm in Seogwipo. Typhoons that affect Korea average 3.4 a year, most often in August (1.2) and July (1.0).
  • Weather closures: Jusangjeolli and Jeongbang close in bad weather, the City Tour bus stops in typhoons, heavy rain or snow, and the Hallasan trails close in winds of 14 m/s or more.
  • Rain plan: from Jeju Port, Manjanggul (underground), Dongmun (covered) and the Haenyeo Museum. From Gangjeong, the O'sulloc museum and café, the partly covered Olle Market, and Cheonjiyeon's short flat path.

Crowds. Jeju took 756,031 cruise passengers in 2025, about 70% of Korea's total. More than one ship is due on 53 days between October and March, and three ships on 10 of them: 13 October 2026 and nine days between late January and late March 2027. Seongsan and Dongmun are the tour-coach stops; reach Seongsan soon after opening.

Mistakes we see passengers make

  1. Planning for the wrong terminal. Jeju Port and Gangjeong are 52 km apart, with Hallasan between them. The 100,000-GT rule has exceptions: Carnival Luminosa (92,720 GT) is at Gangjeong on 14 October 2026, and Visio (102,784 GT) was given Jeju Port on two 2026 dates. Check the daily programme before you plan anything.
  2. Coming ashore with no won. Neither terminal has an ATM, and currency exchange and cash machines are among the commonest questions at the Gangjeong desk. Jeju Port has an exchange counter. Bring won from home or an earlier Korean port.
  3. Trying to pay the bus in cash. Cash was abolished on all Jeju buses on 1 October 2024. Tap a Visa card or phone (accepted since August 2025) or a T-money card. The City Tour bus is card-only too.
  4. Counting on the City Tour bus on a Monday. It does not run on Mondays, which catches Silver Moon (26 October), Westerdam (2 and 16 November), Vasco da Gama (1 March 2027) and Norwegian Jade (15 March 2027) at Jeju Port. Take a taxi: Dongmun is about ₩4,800.
  5. Heading for Seongsan on the first Monday, or Manjanggul on the first Wednesday. Seongsan is shut for Westerdam on 2 November 2026 and Vasco da Gama on 1 March 2027. Manjanggul is shut for Celebrity Millennium on 7 October, Silver Muse on 4 November and Nautica on 3 March 2027.
  6. Booking a hotel-pickup tour for a short call. Every tour in our catalogue starts from a Jeju City hotel or meeting point, at listed times between 08:00 and 09:00, and lasts 8–9 hours. None mentions cruise ships, none fits the typical 8-hour call as listed, and none can reach you in time at Gangjeong.
  7. Aiming for the Hallasan summit. It is about nine hours on foot and needs a reservation. The entry cut-off is 12:30 from April to September and 11:30 from October to March. The 30-minute Eoseungsaengak trail from Eorimok gives you the mountain in about 2.5 hours from Jeju Port.

Quick answers

Jeju cruise port questions

Where do cruise ships dock in Jeju?

At one of two terminals on opposite coasts, about 52 km and 70 minutes apart by road. Ships under 100,000 GT normally use Jeju Port International Passenger Terminal in Jeju City, on the north coast. Larger ships use Seogwipo Gangjeong Cruise Terminal on the south coast, which opened in 2017 and can take two 220,000-GT ships at once. From October 2026 to March 2027 the Province's list has 113 calls at Gangjeong and 69 at Jeju Port. Most Western ships are at Jeju Port, but MSC Bellissima, Spectrum of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas and Carnival Luminosa are at Gangjeong.

Can I walk from the Jeju cruise port into town?

From Jeju Port, yes if you are a steady walker: Dongmun Market is 2.8 km, about 37 minutes on foot (our estimate), and Black Pork Street about 30 minutes. Most people take the City Tour bus (7 minutes, ₩5,000, card only, not Mondays) or a taxi of about ₩4,800. From Gangjeong, no: Seogwipo old town is 10 km away, and the only thing within walking distance is the Gangjeong Haenyeo-ui-jip next door, the women divers' restaurant serving sea-urchin noodles (closed Mondays).

How do I get from the Jeju cruise port to Dongmun Market?

From Jeju Port, the City Tour bus leaves the terminal hourly from 09:00 to 17:00 and reaches Dongmun in 7 minutes. A ride costs ₩5,000 by card only, and the bus does not run on Mondays. A taxi takes about 5 minutes and costs about ₩4,800. On foot it is 2.8 km, about 37 minutes. The bus is a one-way loop, so come back by taxi. From Gangjeong, Dongmun is about 70 minutes and ₩46,000 away by taxi.

Is there a shuttle bus or hop-on hop-off bus from the Jeju cruise terminals?

Not a ship shuttle you can plan around. At Jeju Port, downtown merchants began a free shuttle towards Dongmun in April 2025, but no 2026 route or timetable is published. The hop-on hop-off Jeju City Tour bus from the terminal (₩5,000 a ride, ₩12,000 a day, card only, not Mondays) is the dependable option. At Gangjeong, public bus 680 runs a circuit to Seogwipo and Maeil Olle Market gate 7 for ₩1,150 by card, but its times are not published.

What are the best things to do in Jeju on a cruise port day?

It depends on your terminal. From Jeju Port: Seongsan Ilchulbong, the UNESCO crater, about four hours by taxi; the Manjanggul lava tube, about three; and Dongmun Market with black pork for lunch, 7 minutes away. From Gangjeong: the Jusangjeolli basalt cliffs, Jeongbang and Cheonjiyeon Falls and Seogwipo's Maeil Olle Market, all within 7–12 km and ₩2,000 each. On the typical 8-hour call, choose Seongsan or the sights near your ship; there is no time for both coasts.

How do I get from the Jeju cruise port to Seongsan Ilchulbong?

By taxi. From Jeju Port it is 43 km, about 61 minutes each way (our estimate) and about ₩40,700 on the meter, so allow four hours door to door. From Gangjeong it is 57 km, about 84 minutes and ₩53,500 each way; allow five. Express bus 111 runs from Jeju Airport and the bus terminal, not the cruise terminal, and takes about 70 minutes from the airport. Entry is ₩5,000, the climb to the rim is 30–40 minutes of steps, and it is closed on the first Monday of every month.

Can I do Seongsan and the Manjanggul lava tube on one call?

From Jeju Port, yes on an 8-hour call. Leave at 07:30 and reach Seongsan at 08:30. After the climb, a 35-minute taxi takes you to Manjanggul (opens 09:00, ₩4,000), and 40 minutes more gets you back to the ship at about 12:30. On a 07:00–15:00 call that is an hour inside a safe margin. Check the closure days first: Seongsan shuts on the first Monday and Manjanggul on the first Wednesday.

Is the Manjanggul lava tube open, and how do I get there from the cruise port?

Yes. Manjanggul reopened on 30 May 2026 after repairs, with 1 km of its 7.4 km open on new decks with LED lighting, ending at a 7.6-metre lava column. It is open 09:00–18:00 (last entry 17:00) and closed on the first Wednesday of every month; adults pay ₩4,000. From Jeju Port it is about 41 minutes and ₩26,500 each way by taxi (our estimate), so allow about three hours. It is 11–15 °C inside, so bring a layer. It is the island's best rain plan.

What is there to do near the Gangjeong cruise terminal in Seogwipo?

The south coast, all within 7–12 km by taxi: Jusangjeolli's lava columns (15 minutes, ₩8,300), Jeongbang Falls, Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market and Cheonjiyeon Falls. Cheonjiyeon is open to 22:00, which suits afternoon calls. The three sights cost ₩2,000 each and are listed free for 65 and over. Next door to the terminal, the Gangjeong haenyeo cooperative serves sea-urchin noodles (closed Mondays). Seongsan is possible but takes about five hours.

What can I do in Jeju on a short cruise stop of 4–6 hours?

Count on about two usable hours on a 4-hour call and four on a 6-hour call, after clearance and a safe margin. From Jeju Port, take the City Tour bus or a 5-minute taxi (about ₩4,800) to Dongmun Market, then Yongduam, the dragon-head rock, and black pork for lunch. From Gangjeong, take a 15-minute taxi to the Jusangjeolli cliffs and eat at the haenyeo house by the terminal; with four hours, add Jeongbang Falls and the Olle Market. Seongsan needs four to five hours on its own.

How much is a taxi from the Jeju cruise port, and do taxis take cards?

The official tariff for a standard taxi is ₩4,300 for the first 2 km, then ₩100 per 126 m, with a time charge in slow traffic. There is a 20% surcharge from 23:00 to 04:00. Distance-only floors from the terminals: Dongmun about ₩4,800, Manjanggul about ₩26,500, and Seongsan about ₩40,700 from Jeju Port or ₩53,500 from Gangjeong. Whether drivers accept foreign cards is not published, so carry won.

Can I hire a taxi for the day from the Jeju cruise port?

Yes, but no official day rate is published, so agree the price and the waiting time with the driver at the rank before you leave. As a yardstick, the metered fares for the Seongsan and Manjanggul loop from Jeju Port come to about ₩89,000 a car (our estimate from the official tariff), plus any waiting charge. For out-of-town sights such as Seongsan or O'sulloc, arrange the return before you go: nobody publishes how easy it is to find a taxi back. Carry won and your destinations written in Korean.

Do I need cash in Jeju, and is there an ATM at the cruise terminal?

Bring won: local reporting in August 2025 found no ATM at either cruise terminal. Jeju Port's terminal has a currency-exchange counter; no exchange desk is confirmed at Gangjeong. Buses take no cash at all (tap a Visa card or phone, accepted since August 2025, or T-money), and the City Tour bus is card-only. Taxis and market stalls are safer with cash. As a rough estimate, a couple needs about ₩120,000 for the Seongsan taxi day with entry and snacks, or about ₩40,000 plus lunch on the south coast.

Do cruise passengers need a K-ETA for Jeju?

Nationals of the currently exempt countries, including the US, do not need a K-ETA until 31 December 2026, and travellers aged 17 or under or 65 or over are always exempt. Cruise passengers usually land on a tourist landing permit arranged by the ship. Follow your line's instructions on K-ETA and the free e-Arrival Card. No extension of the exemption had been announced for 2027 calls as of 30 September 2026, so check again before a January–March 2027 cruise.

Where can I see Jeju's haenyeo women divers on a cruise day?

Three ways. At Seongsan Ilchulbong, the divers' show in the cove below is free with your ₩5,000 ticket, afternoon only and weather-dependent; no official timetable is published (secondary sources say 13:30 and 15:00, or 14:00; call 064-783-0959). The Jeju Haenyeo Museum on the east coast is indoors, ₩1,100 and free at 65, but closed on Mondays. At Gangjeong, the divers' cooperative runs the restaurant next to the terminal, serving sea-urchin noodles (also closed Mondays).

What should I eat in Jeju on a cruise port day?

Black pork, grilled thick at the table: Black Pork Street is about 4 minutes by taxi from Jeju Port, and Dombedon there opens every day. Gogi-guksu, pork-broth noodles, at Samdae Guksu Hoegwan in Jeju City. Sea-urchin noodles at the Gangjeong Haenyeo-ui-jip next to the southern terminal (closed Mondays, break 15:00–17:00). Cutlassfish at Nammaene Wanggalchi in Seogwipo's Olle Market, or abalone stew at Sambo Sikdang. Dongmun Market's food alley, between gates 8 and 10, is the easy all-rounder.

Is there anything to do in Jeju in the evening?

Yes, and it matters: 89 of the 182 calls from October 2026 to March 2027 arrive at noon or later. From Jeju Port, Dongmun's night market opens at 18:00 (November–April) or 19:00 (May–October), and Black Pork Street is 1.1 km away. From Gangjeong, Cheonjiyeon Falls is open to 22:00 with last entry at 21:20, and Seogwipo has its own Olle night market.

Can I climb Hallasan on a port day?

Not to the summit. That is about nine hours on foot, needs a reservation, and closes to new climbers at 12:30 from April to September and at 11:30 from October to March. The Eoseungsaengak trail from the Eorimok visitor centre is 1.3 km and about 30 minutes up, with no reservation. It takes about 2.5 hours door to door from Jeju Port, a taxi of about 31 minutes and ₩20,400 each way.

What is the weather like in Jeju for a cruise call, and what if it rains?

October is the best month: average highs of 21.6 °C in Jeju City and 23.5 °C in Seogwipo, and the fewest rainy days. November drops to 16–18 °C, and winter highs are 9–13 °C. Typhoons peak in July and August. In bad weather Jusangjeolli and Jeongbang can close and the City Tour bus may stop. Rain plans: from Jeju Port, the Manjanggul lava tube, covered Dongmun Market and the indoor Haenyeo Museum; from Gangjeong, the O'sulloc museum and café and the partly covered Olle Market.

Is Jeju manageable for older passengers or with limited mobility?

Partly. The easiest sights are Dongmun Market, 5 minutes by taxi from Jeju Port, and Cheonjiyeon Falls, a flat gorge path 18 minutes from Gangjeong. Seongsan's climb is 30–40 minutes of steps, though the lawn and Umutgae cove below need no climb, and Jeongbang Falls has stairs. Manjanggul is a flat 1 km walk, but 11–15 °C inside. None of the tours in our catalogue is marked wheelchair-accessible. Seniors save: the Seogwipo falls and cliffs are listed free at 65 with ID, and the Haenyeo Museum is free at 65.

Is there Wi-Fi or mobile data at the Jeju cruise terminals?

Do not count on it. Wi-Fi and mobile data were among the commonest complaints at both terminals in local reporting in August 2025, and passengers found navigation apps failing. Before you go ashore, download an offline map of Jeju and carry your destinations written in Korean: 동문시장 for Dongmun Market, 성산일출봉 for Seongsan Ilchulbong, 주상절리대 for the Jusangjeolli cliffs. The tourist information desks in both terminals are staffed on cruise days.

What is the best tour from the Jeju cruise port?

For most calls, none. All seven tours in our catalogue start at Jeju City hotels or meeting points between 08:00 and 09:00, last 8–9 hours, and none mentions cruise ships. On a Jeju Port call of 10–12 hours, the private all-inclusive east Jeju day (21130P9) is the one to ask about, because it offers a custom pickup and itinerary; it is non-refundable. On the typical 8-hour call, a taxi day on your own is the better plan.
