An underground lake of unreal cobalt in one of Japan’s three great limestone caves — about 50 minutes’ drive each way (a taxi is very roughly ¥15,000+ each way, our estimate), so honest only on the longest calls with a car held for the day. Open 8:30–17:00 October–April, about 270 steps, closed after heavy rain.
- This needs 7 hr, so it only fits a 9-hour call or longer. On a shorter one it will cost you the ship, not the view.
- No single published ride covers this one. Budget for a taxi both ways, or fold it into a guided day.
Why Ryusendo Cave is famous
One of Japan's three great limestone caves, with an underground lake measured at 98 metres deep and water so clear the bottom is visible through it. The lake is a designated Natural Monument. It is about 50 minutes (roughly 50 km) inland by car, which is a long-call decision.
Where the 7 hr goes
Counted from the moment you step off the gangway, about 30 minutes after the ship arrives. The hour before all-aboard is not in this bar; it is already set aside.
50 minutes each way is the measured figure for ¥1,100 · ~50 min by car, not the optimistic one. If your ship is late, cut the 5 hr 20 min in the middle. Never cut the hour at the end.
