Why we send people here

Pork cutlet, napolitan spaghetti and curry pilaf sharing one plate — Nagasaki’s beloved kissaten mash-up, served at Kyushu’s oldest coffee house since 1925.

Why it earns the hours
  • Short enough to be certain of: 2 hr door to door, so even a tender day works.
Before you count on it
  • No single published ride covers this one. Budget for a taxi both ways, or fold it into a guided day.
The story

Why Toruko rice at Tsuruchan is famous

Toruko rice is pilaf, spaghetti and a breaded pork cutlet on one plate under curry sauce. Nobody agrees why it is called Turkish. It appeared in Nagasaki cafés in the 1950s and Tsuruchan, open since 1925 and the oldest café in Kyushu, is one of the places that claims it.

Where to have it

Three places, three different answers

The one the queue agrees on, the one people who live here use instead, and the one nearest your ship. Opening days change; check before you build a day around one.

If you have longer

What fits alongside it

Each of these still lands you back aboard with the hour to spare on a 6-hour stop ashore.
