GETTING AROUND — the facts that don't change by day (today's times: ship's program or Google Maps)

Glover Garden & Oura Cathedral: ① 3 min walk from the terminal to the Oura-Kaigan-dori stop ② Tram Line 5 toward Ishibashi — one stop, get off at Oura Cathedral Fare ¥150 flat. every ~11 min.

Peace Park & museum: ① Line 5 toward Hotarujaya to Shinchi Chinatown ② Change to Line 1 toward Akasako — ride to the Peace Park stop Fare ¥150 total with IC (the transfer is FREE if you tap and reboard within 30 min); ¥300 in cash. Line 1 every ~7 min.

Chinatown: ① Line 5 toward Hotarujaya — get off at Shinchi Chinatown Fare ¥150. every ~11 min.

Stadium City: ① Tram Line 1 from Oura Kaigan-dori toward Akasako, ride to Stadium City North (the stop was renamed in 2024) Fare ¥150. every few minutes.

THE TWO-MINUTE PORT TALK — read aloud at breakfast

Dejima. An artificial island the size of a few tennis courts, built to quarantine foreigners — and through it came anatomy, astronomy, gunnery and the word for beer. Japan's entire knowledge of Europe passed across one small bridge.

The Hidden Christians. Banned in 1614, hunted for 250 years, and still there in 1865 — when a group of farmers walked into a newly built church in Nagasaki and quietly told a French priest that their hearts were the same as his.

August 9, 1945. The bomb was meant for Kokura. Cloud saved that city and condemned this one — and it detonated over the district where Japan's Christians had finally been allowed to live.

Champon & the mixed table. A Chinese restaurateur invented a cheap bowl for homesick students in 1899 and accidentally created the most Nagasaki thing there is: a dish that is not from anywhere, made of everything.
