Why we send people here

Two Nagoya dishes, both served at Nagoya Station on the way back to the Aonami Line. Yabaton’s JR Nagoya-eki-ten is inside the station, a minute from the Taiko-dori and Shinkansen exits, 7:00–21:00 with no closing day; the Yabacho main shop in Osu is 11:00–21:00. Yamamotoya Sohonke’s Towers-ten, on JR Central Towers 13F, serves miso-nikomi udon 11:00–23:00, last order 22:00. Its Sakae Honke closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so it is shut on 10 November; the Kinshachi Yokocho branch by the castle is 10:30–17:30.

Why it earns the hours
  • It is not only a photo stop: eel in three rounds, pork in dark miso, and toast with red beans at breakfast.
Before you count on it
  • No single published ride covers this one. Budget for a taxi both ways, or fold it into a guided day.
The story

Why Miso-katsu at Yabaton and miso-nikomi udon at Yamamotoya is famous

Eel in three rounds, pork in dark miso, and toast with red beans at breakfast

This pick pairs two names: Yabaton for miso-katsu and Yamamotoya Sohonke for miso-nikomi udon. Yabaton’s main shop is in Yabacho and opens every day; its station branch opens at 7:00. Yamamotoya’s Honke in Sakae closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but its branch on the 13th floor of JR Central Towers serves until 23:00.

Nagoya sells its cooking under one name, Nagoya-meshi. Most of it runs on dark soybean miso, and most of it has a known shop and a known year behind it.

Eat by the map. Hitsumabushi near Atsuta Jingu (Honten on Tuesdays), miso-katsu and miso-nikomi in Osu and Sakae, kishimen inside the shrine, and the morning service anywhere before 11:00. Tebasaki is mostly an evening dish.

Where to have it

Three places, three different answers

The one the queue agrees on, the one people who live here use instead, and the one nearest your ship. Opening days change; check before you build a day around one.

Both pins on one map, so the distance is a fact rather than a feeling.

The arithmetic

Where the 2 hr 30 min goes

Counted from the moment you step off the gangway. The hour before all-aboard is not in this bar; it is already set aside.

Out24 minBoth at Nagoya Station: Aonami Line 24 min, then a few minutes inside the station
There1 hr 42 minWhat you came for
Back24 minTo the gangway

24 minutes each way is the measured figure for both at nagoya station: aonami line 24 min, then a few minutes inside the station, not the optimistic one. If your ship is late, cut the 1 hr 42 min in the middle. Never cut the hour at the end.
