Why we send people here

The railway museum on Kinjo Pier is the closest sight to berths 80–81, about 2 minutes from Kinjo-futo Station. 10:00–17:30, last entry 30 minutes before closing, adult ¥1,200. It closes on Tuesdays, and its 2026 calendar confirms Tuesday 10 November as closed; it is open on Saturday 14 and 28 November. On the 14 November call, when the ship sails at 16:00, it fills the last hour and a half before the walk back to the ship.

Why it earns the hours
  • Short enough to be certain of: 1 hr 55 min door to door, so even a tender day works.
  • On a 4–6h ashore call our verdict is "Yes" — railway museum and lunch at maker's pier on 14 or 28 november. on 10 november, legoland japan or the kinjo pier food tour.
  • It is not only a photo stop: a loom-maker's brick plant, a car company and japan's busiest cargo port.
Before you count on it
  • Closed; it is open on Saturday 14 and 28 November. Check the day before you plan around it.

The story

Why SCMAGLEV and Railway Park, beside the berth is famous

A loom-maker's brick plant, a car company and Japan's busiest cargo port

The railway museum sits on Kinjo Pier, about two minutes from Kinjo-futo Station, the Aonami Line terminus that also serves LEGOLAND Japan, Maker’s Pier and Port Messe. It closes on Tuesdays, and its 2026 calendar lists 4, 10, 17 and 24 November as closed. Adult admission is ¥1,200, and last entry is 30 minutes before the 17:30 close.

Your ship ties up in a working cargo port, the busiest in Japan by tonnage. The company that made the region rich began with looms, in a brick plant you can still walk through.

Large ships berth at Kinjo Pier, a cargo and exhibition pier with no cruise terminal building. Everything here is reachable on foot from the gangway, with no train fare and no change of trains, so it is the safe plan for a short call or a cautious clock. Every other sight in Nagoya means the Aonami Line and Nagoya Station first.

The main draw is the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park, JR Central's museum, opened on 14 March 2011. It shows 39 vehicles, maglev and conventional, some of which you can board. Its three symbols are the C62 17 steam locomotive of 1949, a 955-series Shinkansen test train and the MLX01-1 maglev test car, and it has driving simulators and what it calls the largest diorama in Japan. LEGOLAND Japan and Maker's Pier, with its restaurants, are a few minutes further on.

Do this

Two ways to see it. On a Saturday call, walk from the ship to the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park beside Kinjo-futo Station. On any call, ride the Aonami Line to Nagoya and the Meitetsu line one stop to Sako for the Toyota museum. Allow two hours there.

Before you go

Things worth knowing

  • Tuesday 10 November is the railway museum's closed day. LEGOLAND Japan is open, but Rebuild The World Center is closed 4–19 November and Lost Kingdom Adventure 9–13 November.
  • Whether a shuttle runs from the quay, and where passengers leave the restricted area, is not confirmed. Check the ship's daily programme.
  • No ATM or convenience store on Kinjo Pier is confirmed. Take cash out at Nagoya Station or carry it from the ship.
  • A 2-hour food tour at Kinjo Pier, built around the cruise clock, meets at the Daily Yamazaki inside Kinjo-futo Station and covers Maker's Pier (Viator listing, new).
  • Monozukuriものづくり — The making of things. The museum's word for what Kiichiro Toyoda devoted himself to.
  • Jido shokki自動織機 — Automatic loom. Sakichi Toyoda's Type G of 1924 changed shuttles without stopping.
Where it is

SCMAGLEV and Railway Park, beside the berth and your ship

Both pins on one map, so the distance is a fact rather than a feeling.

The arithmetic

Where the 1 hr 55 min goes

Counted from the moment you step off the gangway. The hour before all-aboard is not in this bar; it is already set aside.

There1 hr 23 minWhat you came for
Back16 minTo the gangway

16 minutes each way is the measured figure for on foot: 15–17 min from the berth to kinjo-futo station (our estimate), then about 2 min, not the optimistic one. If your ship is late, cut the 1 hr 23 min in the middle. Never cut the hour at the end.
