
Sakaiminato regularly ranks among Japan's largest fishing ports by volume landed — enormous seasonal runs of sardine, mackerel, horse mackerel and squid, and from early November the snow crab that reorganises the whole local economy for five months.
The direct-sales centre is a working market that happens to have cruise passengers in it, rather than a market built for them. Vendors will pack for travel, and prices are what the town pays.

Only from early November to around March, when local matsuba-gani snow crab is in season. Outside that window it will be frozen or imported. Order beni-zuwai — red snow crab, cheaper and available most of the year — or iwagaki rock oysters in summer instead.
If your ship is at Showa Wharf you are practically parked beside it — five to ten minutes along the harbour on foot. From the big-ship berth at Yumeminato Terminal it is a short taxi. Pairing it with the yokai road means a ~10-minute taxi between the two, or a 30-minute harbour walk.
