The story

Why Sanriku Railway Rias Line is famous

The Rias Line runs 163 kilometres along a drowned-valley coast, and it is the railway that was rebuilt after 2011 rather than abandoned. Long sections are on viaducts between tunnels, so the ride is a sequence of sudden bays. It is a third-sector line the towns chose to keep.
