Mulhoe is raw fish in an iced, chilli-sharp broth, a fishermen’s dish the city lists among its signature foods. Daepo Port is the round fishing harbour 4.9 km south, with a fish centre and dozens of stalls. A 15–20 minute path climbs to a viewpoint over the harbour and Ulsanbawi. Always open and free; stall hours are not published. Bring won.
- Short enough to be certain of: 1 hr 50 min door to door, so even a tender day works.
- It is not only a photo stop: squid that is vanishing, pollack that already has, and a chicken alley that queues for an hour.
- It is a view, so it is weather. Check the morning sky before you commit the hours.
- No single published ride covers this one. Budget for a taxi both ways, or fold it into a guided day.
Why Mulhoe at the Daepo Port stalls is famous
Squid that is vanishing, pollack that already has, and a chicken alley that queues for an hour
Daepo Port is the round fishing harbour 4.9 km south of the cruise terminal. It is the place Holland America’s page mistakes for the berth. The city lists its fish centre among Sokcho’s four. The harbour is lined with stalls serving hoe, raw fish, and mulhoe, raw fish in an iced broth sharpened with chilli, a dish fishermen ate at sea. A 15–20 minute path above the harbour reaches a viewpoint over the boats and Ulsanbawi. The Bada Hyanggiro coastal boardwalk that runs south from here has been closed for repairs since 1 December 2025. The harbour is always open and free; stall hours are not published.
The two fish that built this port are both in trouble. What people eat in Sokcho now is partly what is left, and partly what the refugees invented.

On a ten-hour call: sundae in Abai Village at lunch and dakgangjeong from the market to take aboard. Add raw fish at Daepo Port if the taxi budget allows. Carry won; stalls and the Gaetbae machine may not take a foreign card.
Three places, three different answers
The one the queue agrees on, the one people who live here use instead, and the one nearest your ship. Opening days change; check before you build a day around one.

Where the 1 hr 50 min goes
Counted from the moment you step off the gangway. The hour before all-aboard is not in this bar; it is already set aside.
10 minutes each way is the measured figure for taxi ~10 min, 4.9 km, about ₩6,800–7,500 on the meter, our estimate, not the optimistic one. If your ship is late, cut the 1 hr 30 min in the middle. Never cut the hour at the end.
What to put beside it
Each of these still lands you back aboard with the hour to spare.
